Advantages: ability, all-round game, adaptable

Disadvantages: personality, unemotional

Pete Sampras, when he first entered the tennis scene - which seems many moons ago - was an absolute revelation and his record at Wimbledon - winning six times out of the last seven attempts - is phenomenal.

He is probably the most complete tennis player ever. He can serve, volley, smash, hit powerful forehands and delicate backhand drop shots. He can play on the clay in Paris as he can on the grass at Wimbledon.

Many accolades have been given to him - apparently his is the greatest grass court player of all time. What is for sure is that a fit Sampras playing well is virtually unstoppable playing on England's green grass.

Nobody likes a winner - probably due to our complicated human psychology - and so Pete Sampras has been criticised for being too much of a robot - an unemotional "let's get on with it" kind of guy. Correct.

When you talk about entertainers like Agassi and MacEnroe - you won't find Sampras there - only on tennis ability that is. But with a big serve and all-action style - which is becoming increasingly unpopular and limits rallying - Pete, on his day, is better than any current tennis player.

His record is unmatched, his talent absolute, his personality hidden.
