There is no doubt in my mind that Pete Sampras is the best player in the world at the current moment. His assets are his serve and volley game and also his excellent backhand.

Whilst his serve isn't the quickest in the game, it is very well placed and still far faster than average. This allows him to get into the net for an easy volley. Normally with a fast serve you have less time to get into the net but Sampras uses his serve well enough to pull his opponent out of position.

Sampras' backhand is one of the best in the game. It looks absolutely textbook perfect and the amount of power and topspin he gets on it is astounding. He can pass people even off the back foot just by opening his stance and flicking his wrist.

When he is at his best he is unstoppable and even the other so called grass court players cannot compare to the sheer might that is Pete Sampras.
