Advantages: More money to save

Disadvantages: No disadvantages it is very easy to do

We can all save money if we sit down and work out a strategy, and the best way to start is to write down on a piece of paper all your outgoings, sometimes seeing the total figure for say what we spend on food a week can come as a shock.

If you do shop at a supermarket, make a list and stick to it. Plan a few meals and only buy what you need. It's easy to buy extra items as the layout is designed to encourage you to spend as much as possible. Always go for own brand goods for the best value.

If a supermarket is offering 3 items for the price of 2, this is merely to get you to buy an extra item you wouldn't otherwise buy. Stop and think whether you actually need 2 of the same item, let alone 3. Buy-one-get-one-free deals are better value but only if you need at least one of them and of course it is an item that you use quite regularly.

Don't buy convenience food. It's not only high in salt, sugar and fat, but it's also expensive. You can make tastier meals for a fraction of the price by buying the ingredients from your supermarket.

How many of us buy our lunch from a bakers shop or buy pre packed sandwiches? Plan your time when getting ready for work and make your own.
If you spend just 2 pounds a day on sandwiches at work, it will cost you 500 pounds a year.

To save money on ingredients as well as the energy needed to cook your food, don't cook individual portions. Cook large amounts and freeze the extra. To save energy and therefore money, put lids on saucepans when cooking and re-heat food with a microwave rather than a hob.

Now you car drivers.....do you really need to take the car to work? Is it possible to share a lift with a neighbour and take it in turns or better still walk or cycle look how fit you would get.

Look at your mortgages are you paying too much shop around there are plenty of good deals out there, that goes for car and house insurances too I saved fourty pounds a month by changing my home and car insurance.

Water, electric and gas bills, sit down and study them make yourself a promise to use less it is easy if you are concious of it, turn lights off in rooms you are not using, are you one of those people that have theirs lit up like a christmas tree?

Ladies and your tumble driers, now these gobble up power, why not get into the habit of hanging clothes on the line avoid a tumble dryer as much as possible your electricity bill will go down dramatically.

Try my methods and then review your outgoings I bet you find you have more cash in the bank at the end of the month to spend on a holiday or that special treat that you have always wanted.

Thank you for reading.
