Advantages: save money
Disadvantages: none
Bottom line to saving money- Save more, spend less.
I understand this is very hard to do, but really, isn't it the truth?
I learned that a lot of people forget the small things that cost little money but add up over time. My father raised me in a way to look at that. I never leave a light on, a tv on without watching it, the water running, etc. Doing all that reduces the electrical usage, which in turn reduces your bill.
Another tip is to purchase items online. You can save a lot of money by using amazon or ebay compared to retail stores. My mom refuses to buy stuff online and I noticed she pays a lot more. She just bought a digital camera at a store because it was on sale. I looked up the price on ebay, and it was about 20% less online. Think of all the stuff you buy in stores, and the money you can save online, it adds up.
Invest wisely. Find a savings account with a good rate (that's hard to come by now). Too many people leave all of their money in their checking account, which usually collects 0 interest. Keep your money in a savings account until you need to use it, when then you can transfer it to your checking and pay bills.
Stop buying popular name brand products when a lesser known similar item is out there. I mostly buy store brand products when I grocery shop, and I can't really tell the difference. Actually, it tastes even better because I know I saved money!
Overall, just watch your spending levels and know how much money comes in and goes out. Make sure that more is coming in than going out!
Summary: little things I do to save money.
