Advantages: More money

Disadvantages: There are none

I have surprised myself how much I have forgotten about saving. Because I am of a certain age, I can remember a time when EVERYONE was concious of saving and not wasting. As time has gone on , society has changed and we don't bother so much. Now it's all comming flooding back!

Work out what you want and how much it will cost before you go. If you can manage it take CASH to the supermarket. You would be surprised how painful it is parting with cash. You are less likely to buy things you don't need. Set a limit and then try to shop to your limit. Allow yourself a little extra as you will always forget something. When you go shopping NEVER go when you are hungry, then you are less likely to buy expensive snacks instore. Don't take your children shopping- they will try to make you buy things you don't want.

Join with a frien or other family members to buy larger sized packages and share them between you. For example in most places you can get a 55lb sack of potatoes for a few pounds. If you share this between two or three families you will make a real saving on the 5lb bags you buy inthe supermarket. It goes without say that this will not be a saving if you let them go off.

Most foods can be cooked and frozen, so if you have left overs or extra time on your hands cook and freeze meals and treats. this will help you save on expensive ready meals.

If taking lunch to work is a drag, cut down on the hassle by alternating with a friend. It takes about the same amount of time to make four sandwiches as two.

Dig out some of your grandmothers recipe books. If you can't find any, go to your local Charity shop, they'll have loads. You'll find money saving tips and maybe some meals that you remember from your childhood which were economical to make.

So much for going back in time. Now get on your PC and open Microsoft Excel
Make your monthly budget using Excel if you know how to use it. You can even use conditional formating so that the overspen will show up in red.

If you don't know how to use it, but you would like to, let me know, I might have some really simple instructions knocking around, but they are too big for this space.

Summary: Saving Money take a tip from me
