The scotland football team is one of the most consistent of all the home nations during qualification for either the European Championship or the World Cup. Unfortunately though that seems to be where their fortunes run out since they have have never qualified for the second round of either of the major championships. They have come close but have just been pipped over and over again and on this occassion have just missed out. In the past Scotland has had a number of genuine international class players including John Collins, Paul Lambert and Mccann. This though is a period of rebuilding for the team and the emphasis has been placed on young ... Read the complete review

After living in Scotland for around a year and the failure of England to you know, qualify for euro '08, despite the wealth of talent my home nation has got at it's finger tips, I've decided to support Scotland. Yeah I'm a turn coat, however if England don't get someone like Fabio Capello I'm sticking to the boys in blue and this is why. Unlike England who seem to play for the money, the Scottish players show passion, they don't expect to qualify but damnit they won't say die. I aknowledge they did have Berti Vogts as a manager not long since and he may have been just slightly worse than Steve McClown but Vogts didn't have the likes of Rooney, Ferdiannd, Gerrard and ... This last weekend, I was up in Scotland visiting some relatives and was lucky enough to get hold of tickets for Scotland V Croatia, the World Cup Qualifier at Hampden Park. A win for the Scots would have given them a good chance of automatic qualification, and almost definately a playoff place. A defeat and the Croatia would have done the same - as it turned out it was a 0-0 draw. You would probably think this is a pretty good result for the Scots, holding the team that finished 3rd in The 1998 World Cup - but the Croatia I saw wasnt of that standard. Scotland now have to travel to Brussels and get a win to qualify automatically - and if they play like they did on ... Read the complete review

As a Scot, I am typing this opinion bitterly disappointed by our failure to defeat Croatia at Hampden. For too long, the problems in the Scottish game have been ignored and we have just continued on under the illusion that things will sort themselves out and that the national team will continue to win games. Sadly, it is time for the nation to face up to the reality that we are unlikely to qualify for the World Cup in 2002 - and worse than that, the game is in need of a dramatic overhaul to stop it slipping even further down the world rankings. Scotland has got a proud history of producing quality players, Kenny Dalglish and Dennis Law are prime examples. Sadly, ... Read the complete review

Being one of the many diehard Scotland fans, I too am concerned about the 'diddy' teams we seem to struggle against. The last time I saw the boys playing was against E*****D at Hampden, yes that heartbreaking result against the Auld Enemy that saw us out of EURO 2000. The atmoshpere that day was unbelievable, and I'd like to know why so many so-called Pundits are so against the new Hampden. It's a great venue, and with a big crowd, it's as good as any ground, on it's day. I'm praying that we qualify for the World Cup and with the Gods on our side, qualify for the second stage, for the first time. However, I can see ... Read the complete review
