Advantages: Looks the part, looked like he had power
Disadvantages: Now looks like he loves the idea of having power but doesnt have enough...or much skill
Scott Belshaw was at one point said to be the next great heavyweight from Ireland following in the footsteps of....nope sorry got nothing. He was seen as a giant, hardhitting and likeable type of fighter. With the irish being the sort to get behind there fighters with out too much encouragement (john duddy, bernard dunne and barry mcguigan all being massive) much was expected of belshaw to follow on in the same vein.
After his alarmingly quick hello to the sport, stopping his rival in mere seconds the under ground community was full of limitless praise for him. Some forum members were talking of him being fast tracked to superstardom on his seemingly god given power. Dubbed "ding a ling man" soon after it was obvious what was expected of him and he followed up the speedy debut win with a series of Ko victories giving him with a record of?. When he in again the colourful Daniel Peret a solid sort of journey man thats often there to take the upcoming fighters through a few rounds and test them.
The shock that no one expected saw the then unbeaten belshaw lose his unbeaten record (falling to 7 wins, 6 kos and one loss). A rematch with Peret would see a reversesal with Ding Ding winning on points.
The rebuilding was under was under way with a career to Belshaw was to face another of the giant young heavyweights out there. Englishman Luke (Tyson) Fury was to be next for Belshaw.
Fury hotly thought of as one of Britains top youngsters was seen as the only stepping up to face
a hard hitting and hungry fighter who matched him for height. Sadly for Scott he couldnt cope with Furys body shots and was completely outclassed losing his biggest fight by tko.
In a display described in some quarters as embarrassing Belshaw seemed to no show. He was there in body only. And this leads up to today, the biggest hardest and most important fight of his professional tenure, the fight to save his boxing career...or find another living.
Stood at 6 foot 8 (or there abouts) and with a shaven head and muscles to match. He does cut an imposing figure so maybe a doorman...but an inability to take a punch might not lend its self kindly to that field. I hear Vince McMahon hires big blokes who are more image than substance...
Overall an over rated fighter that came over to England to fight Fury but forgot how to box. Who now needs to decide if boxing is really for him.
Summary: Will need to think long and hard about the next step
