Advantages: Rangers and Celtic having competitive football in England
Disadvantages: Death of the whole scottish football system
In recent months there has been a major change in the Scottish Premier League. Ten clubs have given two years notice to resign from the league, thus leaving Rangers and Celtic alone. The major issue in this matter is money. The ten clubs involved would like you to believe that it is to do with TV coverage and their anger at the Auld Firm's scuppering of the SPLTV channel that was proposed, but we all know that the prime reason that the clubs have resigned is to do with the amount of money they will be able to receive. I do not hold it against any of the clubs involved, and in a way agree with their protest. As a Rangers fan though I feel that these mediocre clubs have survived through the Auld Firm for long enough and will be watching with interest at the way in which their proposed league survives. It is undesputable that the 10 minor clubs have survived so long because of the Auld Firm. Prices are hiked up when the Firm come to play at the ground, the number of fans swells, with, in some cases, the majority being away fans supporting Rangers and Celtic, and the fees brought in by Rangers and Celtic snapping up the talents of players who impress at the minor clubs. The majority of matches shown on Sky this year have involved one of the Auld Firm and this has generated revenue for the sides involved, but how much interest will be shown by the general viewing public when Livingston take on Motherwell at teatime on a staturday afternoon in two years time? I see the future of Scottish football being on the scrapheap because the 10 clubs walked away from Rangers and Celtic. The Auld Firm will be happily operating in the English Leauge, and the remaining Scottish clubs, whether current Premier League or not will be bankrupt and non-operational because of a total lack of interest and money that will be put into an Auld Firmless Scottish system.

- 19/04/02 em, I think you have your wires crossed a bit MATE! I am Scottish, born and bred in Glasgow. Interestingly you are English as it says on your website, you were born in Sheffield and yet you seem to think you are Scottish. Well unless they have moved the border without telling anyone that makes you English.
I never said that Rangers and Celtic would be joining the premiership, I said they could be joining the first division, which has been stated publicly on TV and in the media as a possibility.
May be YOU should do some research before you write a comment, eh MATE? |

- 19/04/02 sorry this op just annoyed me first off I take it your english as you claim to be a supporter of rangers however you write 'Auld Firm' that'd be Old Firm and Auld is only used when talking about the Auld enemy as in Scotland-England. Anyway it ain't happening Rangers and Celtic will never get into England as the clubs there have made it clear they are too scared I mean they'd have to give up 2 places in the premiership doubt that'll happen and as for the other scottish clubs leaving the old firm they haven't they invited them to the new league but they want it as a democratic league with 12 voices not just 2 which is gonna happen eventually as the OLD firm won't have anywhere to go. try and do a bit of research before you write your next op mate! |

- 19/04/02 Whatever happens, it will be great fun to watch. Can you imagine Celtic and Rangers forming their own little league and having to play each other every week. |
