Advantages: Good track
Disadvantages: long way away!
So the infamous Formula One circus has left Australia under a cloud of uncertanty. Is the sport too dangerous? Should these road courses be banned in favour of purpose built courses? Well, they dont get much more purpose built than Sepang, Malaysia. Sepang was a brand new racing complex built and completed for the season finale 2 years ago. Since then it has grown into a drivers favourite. This may be because its challenging, interesting and a good mix of high and low speed corners. It should be to their liking as the current drivers put in many hours of consultancy whe nthe design was being created. Both Jacques Villenueve and Michael Schumacher had an input into the final look of the course. It is of very modern design but I think it will have lost some of its intensive magic this year due to its place in the calendar. Usually, when we visit Sepang, the season is drawing to a close and the track fight is becoming a close run thing with adrenalin and tempers running high. Duelling cars, eager to win the title will be replace by more relaxed drivers and more cars prone to mechanical breakdown with early season unreliability affecting many runners. I still think this is the best race track in Asia. Who remembers seeing The Ferrari's putitng in an excellent show as Michael Schumacher won his first World title for 5 years last season? I do. The only drawback is the lack of interest from locals. Being a Grand Prix circuit, it is out of the price range of many inhabitants. Still, it makes a good stop off for tourists wanting to witness a fly away race. This is the middle fly away race, sandwiched between Australia and Brazil.Expect the drivers to be fatigued by the time they get to Sao Paulo. Predictions for the race? 1st Schumacher 2nd Hakinnen 3rd Barrichello 4th Frentzen 5th Ralf Schumacher 6th Villenueve Where is Coulthard? He is going to fall of on
the first lap.
