Advantages: State of the art circuit , very affordable
Disadvantages: Can be very humid , possability of heavy storms .
It’s true what they say about the Sepang circuit, it really is superb! Top class viewing, top class facilities and very affordable entry prices, all add up to a track which the Malaysians have ever right to be proud of. Located next to KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International airport) on land reclaimed from the jungle the setting is superb. Kuala Lumpur city where most of the hotels are (there are a couple at the airport complex but book very early if you want a room in one of these) is roughly 60 miles from the track but don’t let that put you off as the hour long taxi ride is very cheep at £10 each way and a lot of the better hotels offer free transfers to and from the circuit. The best seats (essential if it’s hot) are to be found in the two large covered grandstands. Tickets for these are reasonably priced in comparison to other circuits. For example, a three day pass for the Citrine stand (located on the back strait, giving a view of about two thirds of the track) cost £115 last year. For a little more you can get a seat in the Topaz stand. This is in the same block as Citrine just slightly higher. There are large T.V screens opposite you so none of the action is missed. On the opposite side overlooking the pits and start finish strait, the ticket costs are still very reasonable. If memory serves, a 3-day Diamond pass (which includes hospitality food and drinks) cost £250. In my opinion you don’t get as good a view of the track from these stands but there are obvious advantages !! Do make sure you have a transfer or taxi back to your hotel arranged before you get there because all the taxis waiting at the track where pre booked. (Things might be different this year but don’t bank on it!) If you find yourself stuck, the best thing to do is catch the local bus to the airport (you may have to wait a while and even then don’t expect to get a seat) and get at a taxi from there. Top tip, ta
ke plenty of sun screen and a hat of some sort. You might be in for quite a wait for your return transfer or taxi. Also, as the car parks and pick up points are built by large ponds, insect repellent is very good idea !!

BTW, it might just be me - but those grandstand covers look like they would collect water something terrible. |
