Advantages: he could wrestle with anyone and make them look good., Both a great face and heel
Disadvantages: Never proved himself in Japan., Personal problems.
A question asked by many wrestling fans to their friends every day is "Who is/was the greastest wrestler of all time"? Many people have a wide range of opinions. Some would say Bret Hart, whist others go for his sadly dead brother Owen Hart. Others would look back into the deep past and name such legends as Don Murano and Lou Threz, or to the legends of this generation like Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan. But for my money, the greatest wrestler is one from the modern day and helped kick start the new generation of wrestling. HBK, the Heartbreak Kid, whatever you want to call him, Shawn Michaels. To be considered the greatest, first you must have the talent, which Michaels had undoubtably. He was responible for some of the most innovative high flying, high risk moves in North America. Not to say he was a 'spot' wrestler. This guy had some of the most pure wrestling matches ever seen in the WWF, for example his match against Bret Hart at Wrestlemania XII in a 60 minute Iron man match. He can also carry people as well, whetever they are overweight, such as his 'classics' again the likes of Mabel and Yokozuna (RIP), or simply untalented, e.g. Kevin Nash and Sid. This talent helped make him a superstar. Also, the fact he could be a great face or a heel meant he could be pushed either way without any worrys over how he could carry the angle. Most wrestler can only do one side with any success, and even then one side is much preffered over the other, but Shawn was equally as great at both. (But for my money, I liked him best as a heel). However, to most purist fans, to be considered the best, you had to go to Japan and prove yourself there, which is something Michaels never did. Whist I am sure he could of done this with relative ease, the fact he never did would count against him winning this award. Also, his personal problems with the likes of Bret Hart rocked the WWF, and hung question marks
over his commitment. This has been further highlighted as his attempted comeback has hindered by over relance on painkillers for his back problems, and also alcohol problems havent helped. So, is Michaels the best ever? I would say ignore his personal problems and the things he never did, and look what he can do in the ring. He proved time and time again he was great in the ring and thats why I think he was the best ever.

- 14/09/01 An example for all to follow in the wrestling world. However I say it would be Dynamite Kid. |

- 08/09/01 I would say Bret Hart is the best ever. |

- 07/09/01 Ooh, personally Bret gets my vote, but if you look *really* deep into the past, then George Hackenschmidt must get a mention! I agree, he could carry anyone if needed, and was entertaing every time he stepped into the ring. For my money, he was better as a heel, same as you, as I believe he was the first to truly make heels cool, and in a sense, perhaps paved the way for Austin.
Nice op, nice to see a fellow intelligent fan on dooyoo, whose ops possibly rival mine!
