Advantages: come on, you all know the advantages

Disadvantages: he is getting on a bit now

Here I am going to tell you a little more about Alan Shearer the English Football Legend, and my Angel Of The North.

Alan was born on August 13th in 1970, raised on the Gosforth council estate in Newcastle.

When he was a young lad his nickname was ?Smokey? this was because he had a fondness for Smokey Bacon Crisps. All of his life he supported Newcastle United Football Club, and used to stand outside the ground on match days hoping to get a glimpse of his idol Kevin Keegan.

At the tender age of 12 Alan was captain of his school football team. He had trials for Newcastle United, although at this time he played in goal and Newcastle failed to recognize his goal scoring capabilities.
Shearer left Newcastle at the age of 15 and went down to Southampton to play in their youth team. At the age of 18 Alan Shearer made his debut for Southampton and scored a hat-trick.

In 1992 Shearer moved to Blackburn for the then record transfer fee of 3.6million. Whilst playing for Blackburn he became the only player to have ever scored 30 or more goals in 3 consecutive seasons. At his time in Blackburn he helped them to lift the Premiership title in the 1994/5 season.

In 1996 Alan played for England and in the European tournament became the top scorer with five goals. His success in this championship lured the big name clubs like Manchester United. Alan turned this lucrative offer down and accepted a offer from Newcastle United and Kevin Keegan to play for the team he has always loved. 15 million, a world record transfer fee at the time. The day that Alan shearer signed 15.000 people stood in a rainstorm just to see him wave.

Personal Life
-----------------

Alan is married to his wife of 12 yrs Lianya. They have 2 children Chloe and Hollie.

His Time At Newcastle
-----------------------

2000/01 Alan?s season was disrupted by injury which restricted him to only 23 appearances. He underwent two kne

e operations to clear up his tendinitis problem, one in December and one in May in the USA.

Awarded the OBE for services to Association Football in the Queen?s Birthday Honours List in June 2001 to go with the Freedom of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne that was bestowed upon him in March.

Received a terrific and emotional welcome when he returned to first team action as a sub against Sunderland on 26 August before hitting two goals against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on his first start of the season on 8 September.

His brace against Ipswich Town in the Worthington Cup on 27 November took his United goals tally to 100. The goal against Arsenal on 18/12/01 was his first at Highbury and it also broke United?s London ?jinx?.

Hit his 200th Premiership goal against Charlton at St. James? Park on 20 April 2002. Voted North East Player of Year for 2001/02 and also scored North East Goal of the Season 2001/02 (versus Aston Villa)

My Opinion
-----------------

Alan is a old fashioned centre forward, he holds the line well, and is great example to his colleagues and fans.

I hope that after good old ?sir Bobby? has gone that Shearer becomes manager. I think he will be a good manager because all of the players respect him.

Alan scored his 300th league goal against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.Unfortunatly his goal came on a difficult day for the 10 men of Newcastle as they crashed to defeat, losing 5-2.

Cheers

"Same old Shearer-always scoring..."
Ahh, I can hear the Gallowgate singing now!
Shearer, despite being passed his best, remains the best centre forward in the country. I am lucky enough to be writing this after watching his goal on Sunday against Everton-only Shearer (and possibily Zola) could have scored a goal like that.

P.S He deserves a right hammering for that elbow against Milan. Ameobi at the Nou Camp anyone?
