Advantages: It really works
Disadvantages: It is not being taken seriously enough
Cannabis has an unreasonable reputation of being something whish is used only by students, hippies and druggies, and that it creates hallucinations and groovy colours when you smoke it. Cannabis can be used medicinally though, and has been, illegally, for years in the treatment of M.S symptoms. It is proven to have great effect in this way, so why isn't it legal? The only way in which my Mum (an M.S sufferer) would even touch the stuff is if it were to become legal - many other sufferers feel this way and are in severe pain everyday with excruciating muscular spasms which could be easily lessened by taking cannabis in some form. It angers me that she should suffer so much. I would like to see cannabis being prescribed, in a non-smoking, measured dose, for M.S sufferers so that they do not have to deal with the fear of being caught and the expense which comes with buying it illegally . I have nothing against its recreational use, so long as the user is aware of its side effects, but believe that the legalisation of it for this purpose is another issue altogether, and should be treated as such. Let's stop looking at it as an illegal drug see it as a genuine treatment for M.S and other ailments, so that fewer people have to suffer.

- 12/03/01 Like your mother, mine is also an MS sufferer, who believes that it may help to alleviate her symptoms, but she does not want to break the law. I thoroughly agree with your view, and I hope it will be legalised soon, though I'm trying to persuade my ma to visit Amsterdam with me in the meantime! |
