Should cannabis be legalised?

I whole heartedly believe that cannabis should be legalised. I'm not a user of any illegal drug (I used to smoke the aforementioned weed, but I don't anymore), I don't smoke but I do drink. I'm an eighteen year old male student, so I've seen a fair few joints in my (admittedly few) years - enough to know that less damage has been done to A) the people smoking them, B) the people around them and C) society, than the same people getting drunk. I've seen the same friends who've smoked, get drunk and cause trouble, but when they've been smoking they're very (relaxed!) nice people.

Cannabis is not a dangerous drug in itself and there is actually little evidence to suggest that it does cause paranoia as suggested by many government officials etc. It is less harmful than the tobacco commonly mixed with it which carries a government message telling the user it will kill them. Funny that isn't it? Plus, it's less dangerous than alcohol - lots of people die from both cigarette and alcohol use (thousands actually) but that's okay because they're nice taxable acceptable drugs at the moment.

I'm not convinced (although I'm not denying) that using cannabis may increase the chances of people trying other drugs, but it certainly does not (as many people suggest) mean you will become a big time druggy. Most of the dealers I know are actually normal, nice people out to make a few quid (dealing weed - I think people that deal hard stuff should be shot, but then I believe the same of cigarette companies) and help out friends.

To summarise, it should be legalised - other countries have accepted it and moved on. It will give the government more money to spend however it wishes (on drug rehab for harder drug users maybe!) and we all know deep down it's not harmful to people or society. Hardliners on drugs need to recognise that their glass of wine is more of a threat to society than a spl
iff. I've never seen anyone get aggressive after smoking but as I say - I've seen lots with alcohol and you see it every weekend in the street.
