Should cannabis be legalised?

Advantages: Lots

Disadvantages: None if used in small quantities

At the moment in the UK, cannabis is still illegal. There are many reasons for this; one is that professional people such as MPs don't want to talk possitively about cannabis, because they don't want to be associated with drugs or to have their jeopardise their careers. Also, a large body of people are making their negative views on cannabis heard by the government, because if it was legalised, they would lose out (people such as black marketeers).
Cannabis under UK law is a class B drug with 'no medical use'. However I feel that everyone would benefit from the legalization of cannabis.
Even previous monarchs seemed to think this; in 1563 Queen Elizabeth made a law saying that land owners with 60 acres or more had to grow cnnabis or face a £5.00 charge. King Philip of Spain soon followed suit.
There are many advantages to the use of cnnabis and very few disadvantages. It has possitive social, mental and physical benefits.
It would be a cheap, effective and fairly safe medicine, so why should peole be made criminals for seeking relief of pain from it? Surely it should be their choice whether to use it or not?
As for not making it legal due to its side effects, there aren't any. There's scientific proof that it doesn't lead to addiction and most users of cnnabis don't go on to use other drugs. It just leaves you feeling peaceful and calm. If you take a large amount it can affect your balance, but doesn't alcohol have the same consequences?
Overall there just aren't any decent reasons as to why cannabis should not be legalised.
(If you want to try and help get cannabis legalised, I would advise writting letters with your view points to your local MP etc. It may very not make any difference, but you can only try!)
