I think that i went to university because it was what everyone else was doing at the time - i didn't really consider what i wanted to do and what i wanted to be when i grew up - i still don't really know! I think in hindsight i would have gone however i should have left it a year or two to properly think about the courses that were on offer and the future i wanted. As a consequence i ended up completing a masters degree two years later. I think that undergraduate reviews are no longer enough to get you a high paying job and that most students don't understand this when they begin the course. Now isnt the time to go to university if you are worried about money, especially if the universities themselves get their way, some now screaming out for students to pay three times as much as they are now for their courses as recession bites. The good times have passed and for those middle-class parents suffering right now, the traditional paymasters of the vast majority of kids that go to university, only the very rich will be exempt from those financial stresses this time around, twice as many grant maintained students in 2009 than there was in the last serious recession, financial pressures that will exceed the educational ones this time around for the students. ...  Read the complete review

In my opinion University years are the best years of your life. You have no responsibilities and not a care in the world. I'm from Glasgow and went away to Leeds university at the age of 17 (scottish system is slightly different). It was the best experience and decision ever. I chose a course that was challenging and interesting. It wasn't vocational so I didn't know what job I'd do after it. I moved into halls of residents with 10 other people. 1 was from Grimsby, 1 from sheffield, 1 from Leicester, 2 mancunians, 2 Londoners, 1 from Worcestershire, 1 from Bolton and me, so it was a real mix of people that had never met before. We quickly became started ...  Read the complete review

It is ten years since I started University and six years since I left. It all feels like time has passed in a blink of an eye. When I was at school in Northern Ireland I never had a doubt in my head that I would not go to university. I don't know where this belief came from as my mum at the time was the only member of the family who had went to uni but I just had no other plan. When it came to picking what university I wanted to go to, I knew that I wanted to leave Northern Ireland due to a combination of not liking my parents (who does at that age) and I wanted a change. We had some universities that came around the school to talk about their uni ...  Read the complete review

Should I stay or go now? That is a good question and might be worth considering another question besides that one. Should I go part-time or full-time? Having been in both full-time studies at university and also spent a lot of time in part-time study, I believe I am able to share a few pointers that may or not prove helpful if part-time study now or in the future is what you are considering. First of all, if you are not disciplined and have poor time management skills, I would HIGHLY recommend that you not attempt to get involved with part-time study particularly if you have a family or if you are also having to hold down full-time ...  Read the complete review
