Advantages: It's safer, and more economic
Disadvantages: Not a complete solution
Quite often I've walked home from the pub on a Friday or Saturday night, had a curry and thought 'I wish prostitution was legal'! If it was, at least legal in registered establishments, then things would be better surely? Women who are in this profession could do it safely, in secure regulated premises, and it would also be safer for the punters. There could be regular health checks and the welfare of these women would be improved. Also they would pay taxes and contribute to the economy rather than be a drain on it. There would be fewer curb crawlers, releasing police to catch the real criminals. The people living in the neighbourhoods frequented by these people would feel safer, and less trapped in their own homes. These women would then have a chance to have a better life, get educated and be able to choose a different way of life. Why is there prostitution at all? Because for many people that's all there is. Give them the chance that perhaps they never had. I myself don't feel the need to use a prostitute. Many men do, but if they can't they are likely to take it out on the innocent. Don't forget that rape is a horrible crime, and everything should be done to prevent it. I think this would be a big step towards making the streets a safer place.
