Should Saddam Hussein hang?

Newest Review: ... that he has done more harm than good to his country. In a way it might seem fair that he was hung using the specific hanging technique that he himself had instructed be used on others. Well, it might seem fair if you are a believer in the eye for an eye idea anyway. However, my main problem with this is that I cannot see how this will in any way help Iraq move forward. Surely, if you want to start a new, peaceful chapter in the history of that country that shouldn’t start in such a violent way; a way that Saddam Hussein himself would have chosen for somebody else. In order to try to calm the insurgents and people in general, shouldn’t a mor... more

So Saddam Hussein finally met the end so many had wished for him. I have found the whole situation very difficult as clearly this man is a person who has done a great deal of harm, to his people and to others. He clearly does not regret any of the atrocities that have been ordered by him and still doesn’t seem in any way to realise that he has done more harm than good to his country. In a way it might seem fair that he was hung using the specific hanging technique that he himself had instructed be used on others. Premium Review I thought we were better people than death squads in Iraq (203 words)

Saddam Hussein is dead, hanged this morning. Just before execution he was holding copy of the qoran. He was a despicable man, any person not liked was instantly killed. He asking for redemption from god is a joke. Saddam led a turbulent life and he paid for it. The issue I am raising here is Saddam's hanging. I don't believe in death penalty. Countries that practice it are barbaric. Look at USA, from Bush and Rumsfeld down there are dozens of people in the current administration who are war criminals. Killing Saddam was convenient because people who sold him chemical weapons are running Iraq, it was better for Saddam to be out of the way than face ...  Read the complete review

No because I don't believe in hanging people. Current Iraqi government is negligent in slaughter of thousands. Are they going to hang Malaki who is the current leader of Iraq? The issue with Iraq is the culture. Killing is a way to settle political scores. Here in Britain we don't have that therefore I have a pacifist attitude on this issue mainly because of the above argument and although Saddam was a mass murderer he was helped by Americans and Europe. At one time he was our allies and under that guise he was allowed to do all this. Many of our Western politicians are also responsible for the slaughter. The Iraq war is illegal. 123 British ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Martyr? (647 words)

Saddam Hussein throughout the trial has kept an arrogant attitude and has never once shown any signs of remorse for his appalling crimes. When the sentence of death by hanging was pronounced on Saddam, his response was a rant “Long live Iraq! Long live the Iraqi people! Down with the traitors!” Now this, (all being televised) was another way of showing he had centre stage and he took every opportunity to make himself out the Martyr! He then left the courtroom with a little smirk on his face, as if he had won. My first angry thoughts were, he should hang! No! He shouldn’t hang! Firstly, because, doesn’t that not make us all murderers too? Is this not showing ...  Read the complete review

Well on principle, like our dear good leader Mr Blair, I'm against capital punishment. You have to recognise the fact that once you start killing the killers then your moral high ground quickly turns into a slippery slope. But that's easier to say if your family hasn't been gassed, raped and tortured. Nevertheless, like the amazing mother of Anthony Walker we have to find it in our hearts not to want revenge. Once you kill a murderer you sink pretty close to there level. We like to label people as evil because it makes us feel better: no matter how bad we are; we're never that bad. But I do believe that evil resides in us all. After all, little baby Saddam was ...  Read the complete review
