Advantages: I can't see much advantage in smoking in public place

Disadvantages: injurious to health, promotes smoking, wastes time of users

In the beginning, I am assuming that everyone including the reader is aware of the health implications of smoking. Therefore I am not going to discuss that part. The poin I want to raise is the social viewpoint on smoking.

It is not a bad idea to promote a fashion or doing something trendy. But to promote smoking is to promote death and decay. It is widely known fact that Advertising and sales are directly correlated. That is why all producers like to place ads for their products on places where it would be visible from outside.

One of the major source of promotion is word of mouth. I believe that every user of DOOYOO and the review writers in particular are aware of its impact. However, the best possible promotion is possibly the user demonstration of the use of a product. By allowing smoking in public, not only public health is put to jeoperdy, but also smoking is given a scope for self promotion.

Some of the widely accepted reasons for starting smoking is "trying it out". If public display of smoking is prohibited, it can be minimized to a great extent.

Those who think that prohibition of anything is violation of freedom might be right to some extent. But one can't be allowed to mislead others to do something wrong or harmful. If that is allowed in society, lots of people would start making money by making others habituated in using addictive goods.

Summary: Publicly smoking is one kind of promotion of smoking and should be stopped.
