Should smoking be banned in public places?

This is a question that has gripped the nation since plans were made to ban smoking in public places. I live in Scotland and the Scottish Executive's ban on smoking in public places comes into force at the end of March.

I personally feel that smoking should be banned in public places. There is nothing worse than having someone smoking next to you. The smell is enough to make me feel ill at times and having my clothes stinking of nicotine is not my idea of fun.

I have heard arguments that bars and the like could go out of business when the ban comes into place. Yes that maybe the case but surely in the end there will be a happy medium. When Eire brought in its ban the same worries were prevelent but after an initial period of lower sales things turned round and now sales in some bars are up because more people are now going into them because of the less smoky atmosphere.

I have read about plans to ban smoking in places like public parks. This is just obviously just plain stupid and takes things far too far.

One last question for you smokers out there- how can you afford to smoke?? £4-5 for 20??

I can think of many more things I could spend that kind of money on!

Summary: Smoking should be banned in publiuc places.
