Advantages: No more passive smoking, better health.
Disadvantages: Smokers mood swings when they cannot light up, untidy groups of people gathered outside pubs etc.
I think Smoking should be banned in Public places!
The smoking ban actually came into force in Wales on the 2nd April 2007. So i can now reflect on what the ban is like.
I'm a non smoker by the way.
The first thing you notice is how many bilingual signs there are telling you not to smoke.
The second thing you notice is how clean the air is in places like pubs and clubs. There is no haze anymore and you can now go home at the end of the night without your clothes and hair smelling of someone elses dirty smoke.
I see the advantages of the ban to be:-
No passive smoking, better for your health.
It may lead to more people quitting the habit.
No smelly clothes and hair anymore.
Workers in pubs and clubs don't breath the smoke in from customers anymore.
Peoples health in general should benefit.
People with contact lens are no longer affected by the smoke, sore and dry eyes are a thing of the past.
Disadvantages:-
People standing outside pubs and clubs smoking. Smokers corners everywhere.
Where is the government going to get the loss in revenue back from?
People are often stressed and hassled if they cannot light up whilst having a drink.
Conclusion
The ban is great if your a non smoker, not so good if you are.
Summary: Great news for non smokers.

- 11/04/07 I think most people are in favour of the ban - it is disgusting to be standing in an enclosed area when people are smoking. It's been much nicer going out in Scotland since the ban came in last year. Belinda |

- 10/04/07 I'm a non-smoker too, but find the intolerance to which smokers are subjected very distasteful. More "live and let live" needed, in my view. |
