Advantages: Gives everybody the choice

Disadvantages: None for non smokers!

The following review is about my thoughts and feelings on the smoking ban:

I was a smoker from the age of 13 years old and I finally kicked the awful habit in 2007, when I was 31 years old, so my poor body had to endure me smoking for a total of 18 years, imagine all the damage that the smoke did to me?

Myself and my husband decided to stop smoking as we were trying for a baby and thought that stopping smoking would increase our chances of conceiving, plus there is no way we wanted to be smoking while we had a baby, to me that is just cruel. We had tried stopping by ourselves many times and always failed, therefore we decided to try hypnotism. It was expensive and cost us £120 for the both of us, but by some miracle it actually worked! From the moment we were hypnotised we never touched another cigarette!!

We were also lucky in the fact that we stopped smoking just as the no smoking ban in public places came into play, which was a god send for us. When we had previously stopped smoking, we had always started again whenever we had gone out to the pub, as the temptation was too great. We would have a drink and be surrounded by other people smoking, so we used to always cave in and start again.

To be able to walk into a pub or a restaurant as a non smoker and not have to smell other people's cigarette smoke is wonderful. I love the fact that on a night out I can go home and I don't stink of cigarette smoke, as when people could smoke in public I used to be disgusted by the smell of my hair and clothes in the morning, they used to reek of smoke!!

Even when I did smoke, I never used to smoke in restaurants as I thought this was the rudest thing anyone could do, ok, yes they had smoking and non smoking sections but how silly was this, as they were always right next to each other so the smoke used to drift across the restaurant to the non smokers!! There is nothing I hate more than the smell of smoke when I am eating a nice meal, so the smoking ban has stopped those rude people from lighting up after a meal while they are in a room full of people eating.

The only downside to the smoking ban is that more often than not the smoking areas are now situated outside the main entrance to places, so more often than not you have to walk through a drift of smoke to enter a building! I think that the owners of building should think very carefully and situate the smoking areas out of the way of the public and stop people smoking outside the front doors, surely this must be bad for their business as not a lot of people will want to enter a building through a cloud of smoke!

To summarise, I absolutely love the smoking ban, it gives me the freedom to be able to go where I want without the fear of being tempted back into smoking or smelling like and ahs tray myself. Now that I have a 4 month old baby it also means that I can take him out for meals without him being forced to smoke too, which is something I would never have considered doing with him if people could still smoke in public.

I can't really say whether or not I would feel this way about the smoking ban if I still smoked though? Im glad that I will never find out!!

Summary: I love to breath fresh air!

I love pubs now they are non smoking but hate walking outside them, especially at half time during a football match! There are hundreds of people and massive clouds of smoke... can't wee just ban smoking altogether?!
