Should smoking be banned in public places?

Advantages: there are no advantages to smoking

Disadvantages: everyone else is getting poisoned

I have somewhat strong opinions on this matter. I am not a smoker, nor are any of my friends or family. I hate it. And I don't think that the ban on smoking goes nearly far enough. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike people who smoke, I think it is your personal choice weather you smoke or not.

I fully support the ban on smoking in enclosed areas. I used to work in an office where people smoked, and I hated it. Even people that smoke accept that it is a vile habit, and why should it be inflicted on other people? I make the conscious decision not to inhale smoke, so why should I be forced to inhale someone else's second hand smoke? Even in pubs I think it was unacceptable.

I have spent time in California, where smoking in public is banned; and I loved the fact that I could walk around all day and not smell smoke. I hate it now when I go out and there are people standing outside shop/mall/station entrances smoking. Or walking along the street, fag in hand, blowing their smoke all over me and my children. My boys are so young and delicate, I don't want that for them, but it's unavoidable.

I would like to see smoking in public banned completely, and special shelters put up for the people who feel they have to smoke. I don't think it's at all fair that someone inflicts their lifestyle choice upon someone else. You wouldn't force alcohol or drugs down someone's throat, so why do it with skanky second-hand smoke?

Summary: the sooner it is banned the better

I hate people who complain about it being banned saying 'it's a free world it's our choice' blah blah. It's MY choice not to smoke and not have to breathe it in!!
