Advantages: none
Disadvantages: damages health, in public places it can ruin other peoples health and it is not comfortable for non-smokers, Unsafe with a lot of things
I am actually quite stuck on this one. I hate smoking, yes I do. But then again, whilst it is dirty, smelly, and when they smoke by non smokers is disrespectful because it is dangerous to inhale the smoke even if you don't yourself, some people are stuck in it. They might have, when they were younger, got forced into it and wished they had not, and have (unfortunately) become addicted. I think that there should be more non smoking public places, decreasing the amount of smoking areas, but still with some places. After all, someone who is addicted cannot just give up in one second and feel great! I know a lot of people will badly disagree with this review, but I am not for smoking, oh no! I hate the thing, but it is not fair to those people who are addicted. To be fair, I really think, banning smoking on transport (aircraft, trains, buses ect.) is really acceptable, from both comfort and safety, mainly because you are in a confined (and in the case of an aircraft, pressurised and very sealed) environment, along with the dangers. Who would want to be stuck on any mode of transport with a far. Cars are another thing. What if you were smoking in the car, you crashed all of a sudeen and some petrol leaked - you would dead straight away. I am not thoroughly for or against this, although I've just got an idea. Why not start new programmes, where doctors speak to all of their patients and call appointments, so that everyone stops smoking. Eventually, I think it should be banned fully, with them not selling, some members of my family smoke, which I really hate, as I'm worried incase they will get all those health problems - lung cancer ect. but, as I said, health programmes for all smokers and, banning the whole thing. I know it sounds silly and impractical, but smoking, is a stupid habit, but, unfortunately, some people have been dragged in. Public places should have effective ways of keeping the smoking areas and non smoking areas, n
ot closed off (like a restaurant) fully, but keeping the smoke away from the non-smokers. I never have smoked, I don't smoke and never will. I hate it, you won't believe how much I hate it, but those people that do smoke, whilst are damaging theirs (and people around thems health) cannot give up - just like that! So, I whilst I say it should not be completely banned, I do hate it and always will hate it, but you cannot expect people who are addicted to stop what they are used to. Hospitals and Doctors should send out programmes to help EVERYONE who smokes stop, for their own and others around thems wellbeing and schools should extend the eductation to help stop teenagers falling in the trap. PS. In school the other day, in Science we learned about smoking and the smell that cae off the cigarrette was awful!

- 20/01/04 I am also a non smoker but cannot really make smokers stop as they are addicted as you said, so an info sheet on 'why not to smoke' from GP or Hospital will not put them of smoking. I cannot see all Pubs, Bar, & Clubs banning smoking as they will lose revenue. |
