What does the monarchy do for our country?
Apart from attracting tourists to Buckingham palace, what else?

Not much, the country is basically ruled by the government. They decide on the laws and what will happen in the country. They decide on the taxes, benefits, whether we get grants or not. The queen only reads out what is written by the goverment in her annual speech.

So should the monarchy stay? Well they don't really do much. The are constantly in the news though, so why?

Its cause we British are used to them, and as much as we hide it, we are interested in them too. We want to know what is happening in the lives of the royal family. We watch royal weddings.

At the moment, everyone is concerned with Prince William. He is constantly in the news.

I personally believe that the monarchy doesnot do much. There really is no need for them being there, however, they are doing no harm and they do attract tourists, so there is no harm in them staying.

i agree with you all to an extent, i think the monarchy should stay but i dont believe that it plays a big role in todays society thats all. Our country is governed by the government.

(and in fact...the Queen has to sign EVERY law before it makes it into the statute books...so in a sense she does have a say in what laws are passed, although only a theoretical one in modern society.)
