Silverstone Circuit ... Silverstone in the United Kingdom. It is best known as the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948 and which has been held on the circuit every year since 1987. The circuit is also home to the BRDC International Trophy, formerly one of the premier non-Championship F1 races in the calendar, today awarded to the winner of a race for historic F1 cars at the annual Silverstone Classic meeting. Half the circuit is in Northamptonshire and half in Buckinghamshire, roughly equidistant from Milton Keynes and Northampton. It is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track.

Had I realised in advance, I would have brought more refreshments with me, rather than pay over the odds (£3.50 a pint) for a beer inside the venue itself. Lesson learnt for next year though, there were many people with picnic hampers, coolboxes and the like, so I don't think bringing your own food & drink is discouraged at all. Again, whether ... more

Despite not being a huge fan of motor racing, 2 weeks after the 2009 British Grand Prix, the Renault World Series motor sport event was held at the Silverstone circuit, and offered free tickets to the weekend's racing, exhibitions, demonstrations and more. Everybody likes a freebie, and I was heading down the M1 for the weekend to Wimbledon and the Royal Albert Hall (see my other reviews!), I decided to pick up a couple of tickets and try something new. Having heard about people's negative experiences of Silverstone previously in reviews of the British Grand Prix, one thing stood out. 'Traffic is horrendous'. Happily, with the Renault World Series event, ...  Read the complete review

So Andy Murray hit the brick wall of Nadal and Federer and so didn't make the big weekend and so it's over to Lewis Hamilton to grab glory at Silverstone, hopefully not hitting any walls. But the big story here is the apparent loss of the Grand prix to my home county of Northamptonshire as the race moves to Leicestershire and Donington Park. I freelance for the local rag here and we kind of knew a move was coming one day and we certainly haven't given up on staging the race in 2010. There's no way Donnington can be ready by 2010 to stage the race and we feel its more wheeling and dealing by Ecclestone to get more money out of Silverstone, presumably through a ...  Read the complete review

I am a freelance F1 & Motorsports photographer, hence have been to Silverstone! I find the facilities very good for a circuit of it's age. There is ample stands with both seating and standing (great for sticking your camera through the fence) facilities. There are many toilets and shops for all ranges of merchandise (wel though up of when arranged to attend the events) all events have merchandise for both the circuit and the many differeing motorsports from 2 wheels to 4, hence something for all. I was once 'stuck' when I did not trust my taxi to turn back up on time and leave me, the lady invited me into her office and helped me very much! There were no public call ...  Read the complete review

I have seen a few of the comments made about Silverstone Circuit and the facilities you have enjoyed there when you visit. Perhaps some of you should look into joining Silverstone Racing Club which is a club for motor sport fans. There are loads of benefits to being a member and it is really good value for money. You will be able to buy a season pass too which means you can get to all events at the circuit except the Grand Prix. The view from their grandstand is awesome..... I could go on and on about the place but you're better off visiting for yourself or take a look at their website - ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Silverstone Circuit: Formula for disaster ? (1341 words)

There are a few sporting events each year that I classify as golden, the sought of events that you probably would not have the chance to go to normally, Wimbledon, The F.A. Cup final and the British Grand Prix would probably have been my top 3. However by a sheer fluke this year I managed to acquire 2 tickets for the Grand Prix from my place of work, 2 tickets given out and 280 people vying for them, so I thought I’d had a result. After contemplating selling my tickets on ebay for £200, the going price at the time I decided to give it a try, well I don’t have that sort of money to throw around. And this would be my only chance to go and see ...  Read the complete review
