Advantages: Great variety of Sports, relatively good punditry
Disadvantages: Could be considered pricey, can't buy individual channels
The Sky Sports package is an extra to the basic Sky coverage that you will get.
==== How much does it cost? ====
If you have all 4 Sky Sports channels then it will cost you roughly £15 a month to get it, this may seem pricy when you consider how much you would watch it so it is always something worth considering before you decide to purchase it.
==== What do you get? ====
As part of the "sports" package you will get Sky Sports 1,2,3 and Sky Sports Extra. Note: Sky Sports News is part of the News package and NOT the sports package (strange I know). I have personally found that we only really ever watch Sky Sports 1 or 2 and you did used to be able to buy the sports channels seperatly but as far as I am aware they have since discontinued this, guess it means they can make more money which is what being in business is all about.
==== Quality of programming ====
The main draw of Sky Sports to us and to most people will be the amount of Barclay's Premier League Football that is broadcast, I am a massive football fan and so it doesn't really bother me whether my team is on or not as long as I can spend the weekend watching some entertaining sports. The selection of matches they have available is generally of good quality although they may not get all the games that you would like to see. There is also a lot of other top quality sport that they broadcast such as the ashes cricket, US Open Tennis, US Open golf and many others. Sky Sports ensures that whatever your sport is, chances are they will have it covered.
==== Rivals ====
In terms of Sports broadcasting the only real competitor that exists in the UK is the newly formed ESPN (formerly Setanta) I feel that in a way competition is good for consumers as economic theory suggests that the quality and price of the goods should increase. However in this instance I am unsure, you have to pay an extra £15 or so a month to get ESPN and whilst they do have some English Premier League games they do not have as many as Sky, the only justification is the addition of all the American sports that come with the ESPN package (such as NHL, NFL, MLB) however if you are not fans of these sports then this probably will not interest you.
==== Overall thoughts ====
Overall I would say that SkySports is deffinately worth the amount we pay per month. However this may not always be the case for others it will all depend on how much you use it. If you are only a casual watcher then maybe you shouldnt bother but it is at the moment the best sports broadcaster that is available.
