A waste of space in the squad (Vladimir Smicer)

Advantages: Another player in the squad

When Smicer signed for us from Lens, we were told he was one of the best players to ever come out of the Czech Republic - unfortunately he turned out to be an utter joke. He has to be one of the weakest players in the Liverpool squad who gets brushed off the ball so many times without putting up a fight. But many wingers aren't that strong but have the skill and pace to make up for it - unfortunately Vladimir is lacking badly on this front as well - he lacks the directness of a Ryan Giggs, the pace of a Marc Overmars and the skill of a Denilson (all far better wingers than Mr Smicer!). He almost dishonours the No.7 shirt at LFC and should just give it up to someone who deserves that number and can give it the justice it deserves!

The worst thing is that Gerard Houllier has recently offered him a new 3 year contract - why??? He has done nothing to justify a new contract and should be allowed to just leave the club for any fee offered (if any!). The good news though is that Smicer is unhappy at the terms offered and so there is still a chance that we can be rid of this useless player and we can replace him with someone who has talent, pace, desire, strength and skill!

I'd look to replace him with Blackburn's Damien Duff - someone who has the potential to fulfill all of the criteria stated above and can give Liverpool the width we sometimes lack on occasions its needed. Although Duff may cost £15m plus, winning the Premier League and Champions League will certainly reap that cost back in no time!!!
