Somerset as a county cricket side have seriously slipped down in the past few seasons. Last season saw a joint failure of relegation from the top two championship and one-day leagues, while this year has not show any real improvement. The chief executive this year sent letters to most of the first team players warning them about their poor performances and threatening people with the sack, so bad have some displays been. Even a promising start in the county championship and a short but exciting cup run cannot disguise another poor year. Somerset do not have a bad side on paper. Shame we have lost 2 very good players to England... can we have them back please? - Advantages: Friendlt atmosphere at ground, Team spirit is obvious in all they do - Disadvantages: One or two problems with Board of Directors trying to sell ground

Somerset County Cricket Club were often looked at the whipping boys of county cricket, although over the years they had produced some of finest players in Britain. However it was not until 1979 when they won the Gillette Trophy and the Sunday League under the astute captaincy of Brian Rose, that people sat up and took notice. They could have added the Benson and Hedges Cup too, but for a piece of gamesmanship vx Worcestershire, where they declared after around 9 balls, to get an easier draw in the knock-out phase.
