South Korean National Football Team

South Korean National Football Team ... jointly with Japan, was a sign of the rapid progress made in South Korean football. Led by Dutch coach Guus Hiddink and assistant coach Pim Verbeek, South Korea defeated Italy and Spain, advancing to the semi-finals, a first for Asian football. The enthusiasm of the red-clad supporters, known as the Red Devils, also made a big impression on viewers world-wide. After the team success, football had an explosion of popularity in the country, where the game had traditionally been less popular than other games, such as baseball, formerly the most popular spectator sport in the country. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, South Korea achieved their first World Cup victory outside of Asia by beating Togo 2 to 1 in Frankfurt on June 13. Against France, the team managed a late equalizer from Park Ji-Sung to end up with a 1-1 tie and this put them tied with Switzerland on top of their group. However they were knocked out after a 2-0 loss against Switzerland, while France advanced with a 2-0 win against Togo.

Regular inspections by the R.S.P.C.A, and other animal rights bodies, are carried out, on farms and slaughter houses across the UK. In the UK, we are a nation of animal lovers and most of us could not bare cruelty to animals in any way, shape or form. Yes, the animals we eat ... more

Premium Review South Korean National Football Team: Are you Hungry? (1562 words)

I am really going to struggle writing this review, and really struggle on knowing where to put it. Do I put it under "korea", or under "animal rights". I'm not really sure. Opting for "korea" seems right, as this is something that happens in this country on a daliy basis. If I put this under the animal rights section, it possibly would be swept away. I want people to see this review who are looking up Korea as a possible place to visit. I want them to know what happens in this country, and what to expect to see if they happen to visit one of the thousands of markets, or hundreds of restaurants that sell dog meat. I ...  Read the complete review

I want to talk about that Italy versus Korea Football match. I am still incensed by the whole ordeal. Now I am not a sore sport like Perugia, the Italy club who dropped their Korean star in retaliation of getting beat but I am pretty mad since I basically got smashed out of the yahoo internet soccer thingy they have going on. I watched the game with Mrs Simocolli who lives next door. I really rsent having to admit I live in the same complex as some guineas but it is true, I am human, sorry, I am trying to do better for my children. Thing is, is that some of these Eye ties have good jobs and money and they still sound like fruit vendors. But anyways I watched ...  Read the complete review

North Korea made history in 1966 when they became the first Asian team to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, thanks to a shock 1-0 win over Italy. South Korea made a fine example of history repeating itself to book their quarter-final spot in 2002 with a 2-1 golden goal by Jung-Hwang Ahn against Italy. Now they have gone one step further by becoming the first Asian team to reach the semi-finals, who would bet against them beating Germany? It has been that sort of World Cup, all referees and linesmen errors aside Korea have made this to be one of the most memorable World Cups, and their achievement is more than just a flash in the pan. It could start a new ...  Read the complete review

When the world cup went to South Korea and Japan, I like many , expected the hosts to be out at the first group stage. I mean, who has heard of a South Korean team playing good football? Well that was until I saw them systematically take apart a Poland team that qualified for the world cup with ease. This was the same Korean team that demolished the Jocks 4-0 only a few weeks ago. What a lovely present for the 50,000 screaming Koreans packed into the stadium yesterday. Forget the cheap jokes about their size and tactics. This was a well disiplined side with superior skills and a brilliant mindset for the game. They were a pleasure to watch and look like ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review South Korean National Football Team: Korea Team Fighting! (858 words)

Football was first introduced to Korea by the crew of the British ship the "Flying Fish" during a port-call in Incheon in 1882. However, due to the colonisation of Korea by Japan(1910-1945), the national team didn't play their first game until 1948 when they thrashed Hong Kong 5-1 in a qualification match for the London Olympics. The years of suffering under the brutal Japanese regime still impacts on Korean society. Older Koreans detest the Japanese with a passion-the younger generation has been mesmerised by Japanese animation and popular culture-and this hatred is certainly felt whenever the two national sides meet(I would compare ...  Read the complete review
