Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Belgium ... Formula One Belgian Grand Prix and the Spa 24 Hours endurance race. It is also home to the 25 Hours of Spa, run by the Uniroyal Fun Cup. It is considered to be one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, mainly due to its fast, hilly and twisty nature. The circuit features one of the most famous and dangerous sections of any racing track in the world, the Eau Rouge complex. Spa is a favourite circuit of many racing drivers and fans. Many of the modern great Formula 1 drivers have had memorable battles and victories at Spa, including Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, Mika Häkkinen and Kimi Räikkönen. A notable exclusion is current world champion Fernando Alonso. Spa was dropped from Formula 1 calendar in 2006. The organiser of the event went bankrupt in late 2005, and therefore the planned improvements of the race track and the paddock had not yet been made. The Wallonia government stepped in and provided the necessary funds, but too late for the 2006 race to take place.

Out of the non-F1 pit lane we immediately hit Eau rouge, a slight jink to the left and then a right and then a blind left at the top of the hill, then a big bump once onto the straight into the chicane at Malmedy (where Hakkinen spectacularly took Schumacher via Zonta in 2000). Then it’s all fairly plain sailing through a series of corners that require a lot of gear ... more

Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most spectacular Grand Prix circuits in the world, I’ve recently (August) returned from a trip there with an FIA GT team competing in the Spa 24 hours and spent a week at the magnificent location. Mention Spa to the average person on the street, and 3 things I guess will pop up, the fact that it is located in the serene location of the Ardennes, Eau Rouge/Blanchimont and the fact that it is the longest course on the F1 calendar (at about 4.3 miles I think) >>How to get there I traveled to the Circuit by road through the channel tunnel (opinion coming soon) I guess this is the usual way of getting there ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Longest F1 circuit. (463 words)

The Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium is the longest circuit used during the Formula One World Championship series. At 4.3 miles a lap, this circuit takes an F1 car nearly two minutes to complete, which is a long time in F1 terms. Because of the length of the circuit a complete race is only 44 laps. This track is a great favourite of the drivers because of the fast, challenging corners, particularly the Eau Rouge corner, but there are some concerns over the high speeds and the overall safety of the track. This was emphasised with the very fast, terrifying crash of Luciano Burti in the 2001 race. However, the vast majority of the drivers would not want ...  Read the complete review

Well – once again I sit down to watch a Formula One race and end up thinking I’m watching a CART race instead. Oodles of drama were to be found in the the circuit nestling amongst the hills near the German border. However my friends, drama is not always a good thing. * The Track * Fast, long, sweeping, slow, open, tight, dry, wet. All words that could be applied to Spa and all words that could be applied at the same time. Spa is both one of the longest tracks and also one of the fastest, despite having a few chicanes chucked in. Somewhat reduced in size from it’s ‘glory’ days and now consisting of far fewer public ...  Read the complete review

Ok, so Schumacher has wrapped up the Formula One World Drivers Championship and with the help of his Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello they have sealed the constructors championship too! But things are not all over! Coulthard needs to fight off Barrichello and Ralf Schumacher for 2nd position in the championship. Hakkinen needs another victory to bring him closer up the championship table whilst the other teams just want those remaining points left over for their own personal pride! And where better to hold the next race, than at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. The 4.329 mile race track looks stunning, set in the Arden forest it often heralds ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Belgium: Last of the Classics... (794 words)

Spa-Francorchamps... the very name sends tingles down the spine of fans and drivers alike. 4.329 miles (or 6.967 Kilometres if you prefer) of pure racing heaven... it truly is the last of the great drivers circuits, sure, some of the classic Grands Prix still exist, such as those at Monte-Carlo and Monza, but apart from Monte-Carlo, this is the only track that's left that hasn't been carved up and destroyed in the name of safety. There was a time when Spa-Francorchamps was an 8.76 mile section of country roads... but it has been shortened since then to it's current layout - still one of the longest in Formula One - and now includes some ...  Read the complete review
