Advantages: Has the potential to save lives

Disadvantages: is misused

The idea of speed cameras is to impose a limit that drivers can go over, if theyu go over it they get fined and 3 points. the thing that gets most drivers annoyed is the lack of common sense that is employed in the use of these things, for example placing them right in between differing speed zones - yes i know you can say drivers are supposed to compensate for this but come on!

Also alot of bad driving occurs in small villages etc and how many speed cameras do you see there - barely any the proportion is on higher volume roads where there are more people to fine.

The speed limit on our roads is mandatory but surely some common sense should prevail, should the speed of traffic not be taken into consideration - theres nothing more annoying to a motorist than a driver who sticks to the speed limit when theres a clear road ahead.

i think if used properly, and most importantly with common-sense, then speed cameras could indeed be effective. however surely the more important thing is the continuing education of new and continuing drivers to the consequences of dangerous driving?
