Sports shoes, Overpriced? Is it name over quality?

Like everything, sports shoes have their good points and bad points. There are so many styles, shapes, colors and sizes of sports shoes that a first time buyer would be utterly shell shocked and confused the first time they walked into a shop and looked at them. I find though that a lot of these shoes are way over priced for what they are, and nine times out of ten you can find a cheaper version of them, just without the big brand name.

A lot of these shoes can hit £100 just for one pair, which i think is way too much. For an average person with an average job that is potentially half a weeks wage, just to get yourself a new pair of trainers!!

A lot of these shoes are very narrow, which for me is not at all suitable. They shouldn''''t be so narrow it cant be good for your feet at all.

Other than the price, these shoes do not tend to last very long, especially if your using them for running. A typical pair of shoes for me only lasts about two months, which is why i will not pay £100 for one pair.

I think the prices of these need to be reduced, after all, we all know we are only paying all of that money because they have have a big name brand attached to them.

On the other side, some of the sports shoes are really good. Some are quite cheap. I don''''t mind paying thirty or forty pounds for a pair, but sometimes i find the cheaper they get, the quality of the footwear seams to lack somewhat, which is a shame because it means they don''''t last as long.

If you are going to buy a pair of shoes, try to look online for deals, don''''t just jump into the first shop and buy the first pair you fancy, because the chances are your going to be paying the hundred pounds to get them!

My last point is children and teens. They seem to think that brand is everything and quality does not matter. These big name brands thrive of this, because it means we pay more money for their shoes. A nice pair of Sketchers does the trick, but the young ones want nike and adidas because they think its cool. Don''''t get me wrong, some of their shoes are extremely good quality and really comfortable, but i saw a pair of their shoes the other day and it was well over £120! The main points to me, are Is it comfortable? Is it good quality? That is it!

I’ve seen so many new types of sport shoes but with the cost of them are you getting the best quality for your money? I have got Nike trainers and Adidas and I have just got a pair of Skecher Trainers for £69.99, but I have notes that big name trainers they do not last very long in about 2mouth of getting them you need to get a new pair, but I have been out liking to see what is the best quality trainers out there and this is what I have found out. Also I have found out some reason’s why children need expensive trainers and why babies don’t need them. NIKE: I must say that Nike trainers are good quality, comfortable, good range of sizes, and lots of different designs but some of them are not that good as other, but I must say for what you are getting the cost of them is to much when the making cost of the trainers is not a lot. On a pair of £90 trainers the cost of making the trainers would be only about £10 oh well and you can get them from most sports shops and lots of other places. ADIDAS: well with Adidas I must say they are the best trainers around 2day, they are more comfortable then all the others, and the quality of Adidas is excellent, good range of sizes lot of good different designs and almost every teen star where’s Adidas and every like to do the some. ELLESSE: The problem with ELLESSE is that there is more verity for men then women and also less sizes in rangers of designs for women so they have to pay more then men because they have to buy gents trainers. Ellesse are very good quality and come in wild colours like other brand trainers they are also comfortable but still more money. HI-TECH: this make of trainer is not really great but they are just like any brand make, they have the same good quality and materials like any other trainer and people buy them because they are cheap and cheerful and can’t really a ford other brands because they are expensive or they just like Hi-te
ch. KAPPA: The reason people buy KAPPA is because they sponsor world wide football teams but they are not really that good quality and they do not last long, some people buy them because there favourite football star wears them but they don’t really cost that much. REEBOK: This brand has been around for quit some years now and they are at good prices, these trainers are hard wearing and great for kids if you want a pair of Reeboks JJB SPORTS are doing them for nearly half price so you can’t go wrong they are more comfortable and they make your feet look small so they are great for women, men and kids. SKECHERS: More girls’ buy this makes then men because britany spears wears them and young girls praise the princess of pop so this new brand make is making money off the Madonna wannabe, the SKECHERS look cool but do they last long? THE PROBLEM WITH KIDS AND BRAND NAMED TRAINERS! If you are an adult and have children you have already find out that brand make trainers cost you more money then what they are worth and that children have to have them. What is the reason for children to have expensive brand Named trainers? The reason why: When children get older they want everything and want to be like the popular kids at school but as parents it’s your job to keep them satisfied and to make sure they don’t get teased or get labelled at school, but why do they get teased? They get teased because they don’t have a pair of brand named trainers and other children who have got them think that they can push other children around and start to say heart breaking things to them such as: you can’t afford them because your parents are poor, you can’t play with us because you don’t have a pair and so on. When your child come home from school crying it’s because other children have teased your child, so what do you parents go out and do? Y
ou take them to a sports shop to by a new pair of trainers but when you see the prices in your mind you really want to say no but of course in the end you don’t say no because you want your children to fit in so that as a parent you think your in the right of mind and hope that everything that happen with your children or child in school stops. But it’s not just the brands to blame it’s also the people who wear and promoted them e.g. famous teens and football stars who your children look up too, so what if as parents the companies bring out a new design or a new brand names of trainers? As parents you go through your children kicking and screaming until they get a pair and the companies don’t get put through that like you do, which means you have to suffer the consequences just to make sure the teasing stops and that your children are happy. WHY NEW BORN BABIES DON’T NEED BRAND NAMED TRAINERS? In my opinion new born babies do not need brand name trainers because they cost to much and not only that they do not need then because they can not run or walk yet but still parents buy them. But in my point of view why buy them when their feet our still growing, personal I think their a waste of money and babies do not need brand make trainers or clothes to look good because they will just grow out of them. AND THAT’S WHY NEW BORN BABIES DO NOT NEED BRAND MAKE TRAINERS!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Our Experience: My hubby, bless him, I love him to bits but he is a little overweight! He could do with losing a stone or three, which I am sure he wont mind me saying!! Ive been pestering him for ages to start some kind of exercise program. Now he is very well known for spending lots of money on something, using it once, and then burying it in the garage in the vein hope that it might take itself back to the shop for a refund! This includes a set of weights, a £500 12mth gym membership that he used four times, tracksuits, £800 treadmill - the list is endless. Anyway, this aside he approached me recently with that look in his eye - no not THAT look! He wanted to try again. He wanted to be able to chase his little girl around the garden in the summer without needing an oxygen tank on standby. So I said okay, I would help. We had the idea of buying a mountain bike as we both had fond memories of bike-riding during our childhood years, although he did manage to ride straight into a car when he was younger, which sent him flying over the handlebars onto the ground, whilst knocking out his two front pearly gnashers, which he has since had replaced I might add!! The bike arrived in all its shining glory but before he could ride it, of course he had to have the correct equipment. And I am not talking about a helmet and kneepads, oh-no. I am talking about t-shirts, tracksuits, sports socks, bobble hat, and of course trainers. We went shopping and determined not to spend a fortune on something he would only wear for a fortnight, I managed to get him into a discount store. He saw the trainers of his dreams immediately..Nike Air. He has always wanted a pair of Nike trainers so he could try in vain to recapture his youth, and have the kudos of owning a trendy pair of trainers. You know what these middle-aged men are like - at least it wasnt a sports car!! The trainers were quite attractive; cream with an orange logo, complete
ly inconspicuous! We both tried them on and they were wonderfully comfortable, in fact the most comfortable trainers I have ever tried on. They were fairly basic as far as trainers go but would do the job and they were quite reasonable at £50 per pair. We both bought a pair and eagerly returned home to work out our new training regime. After ten minutes on the bike he tells me his trainers were fantastic and his best ever purchase. He suffers from sore feet and couldnt believe he hadnt found them sooner. The next week my mum asked him to help her move some fencing in the garden. The only trouble was that the ground was very muddy. Undeterred he began to help but quickly regretted it as he nice new cream Nike Air Trainers became a horrible greeny-brown colour. When we got home I left him downstairs to clean them as I put the baby to sleep and had a bath. When I came back down I noticed to my horror that he had put them in the washing machine - thats okay, I thought to myself. As long as he has put them on a very low temperature wash. I took a closer look and found that he had actually put them on a 1hr, 90-degree cycle and when I took them out, the dye had run into the main body of the trainer and they were three sizes too small for him! Its safe to say that I dont recommend anybody putting them into the washing machine and certainly not on a 90-degree wash!! And thus the trainers life came to a very sudden end and were consequently buried in the garden. ****GENERAL INFO**** People tend to judge Nike as being an expensive brand of trainer. Certainly if their advertisements are anything to go by, they need all the money they can get to pay for the footballing talent they display on our screens. One of the reasons Nike shoes are so expensive is the fact that it can take up to three years for a shoe to go from the design stage to the finished product. If you shop around, you can get the older des
igns for a better price. For current designs there tends to be a set retail price. Nike Air use pressurised gas inside a specially designed bag to cushion the force of impact on the body and then return to its normal shape, thus creating maximum comfort. This bag is located in the midsole, at different locations depending on shoe design. You should always check before purchase if you are a more serious sportsperson to make sure you receive the correct protection. There are various types of Nike Air Cushioning Systems: -Maximum volume Units - large cushioning area for high impact activities -Large volume Units - for users who are lighter in weight but still require good protection -Low pressure Units - for walking and low-impact activities Prices range from approx £35.00 to £140+. ****SUMMARY**** I would definitely recommend Nike Air whether you are a sportsperson, if you suffer from sore feet, or if you just enjoy a comfy shoe. They are available in all shapes and sizes, and with a price range to suit most. They are very comfortable and provide excellent protection whether you are doing low or high impact training. They can be purchased from any high street sports shops as well as online. As for our experience, well the trainers I have had to throw in the bin, and as for the bike - oh its buried in the garage somewhere, collecting dust, waiting for the day when it will see sunlight again...

Hey presto, what do you know Nike have made another breakthrough in trainers. Nike have just released a new pair of trainers in the UK they are the PRESTO. Sleek, stylish, sexy and a slipper for the outdoors. I was out shoping for my new phone which i have also wrote about, when i saw the marvellous PRESTOS. They had more or less every different colour combination under the sun. They have no laces which is also another benifit as you can just slip them on and go were you want. Unlike any other trainer i have tried on it is light and has a breathable outer synthetic material, this allows it to hug your feet and be very comfortable instead of laces there is a rubber/ elasticy material in the place of laces that is tight to your foot so when you run or walk your foot is always well supported. They were also cheaper than i thought they would be, at only fifty five pounds i thought they were a bargain. so in total that day i spent around four hundred pounds on travel, food, trainers and a new phone so a totally enjoyable day, until i got home and found that someone was ransacking my house as i went in someone pushed me over then ran out of my house and down the road this was the perfect oppurtunity to try my prestos out, so with slight move of my hand the PRESTOS slid on and i was running too catch the yob who obviously didnt know that Nike had some new lighter than ever trainers out. This was also a good oppurtunity too ring the police on my other item of the day my phone. Within half an hour i had caught the yob and escorted him back too my house where we waited for the police to turn up. This is a true story and i dont mind if you dont believe me as i probably wouldnt believe you, but these trainers are now truly my pride and joy and have inspired many of my friends to buy a pair after hearing of my heroics. Oh yeah and I'm not being big headed I just felt the need too share it with you. Cant wait too hear what you think.

I had wanted a pair of Nike prestos ever since I saw them on the internet, and as it was coming up to summer it was time for a new pair. So I took a trip to my local shopping centre in hope too find the perfect pair, a sleek black trainer with gold band around. Let me first explain the band is actually some sort of plastic spider web pattern so there is no need for laces. The trainers are the lightest trainers I have ever had in my hand, too my disappointment of looking round all the sports shops and not finding my perfect pair I had to settle for an all black pair which have grown and grown on me since buying them. I paid fifty-five pounds for my perfect trainer and if you ask me that is superb as most of my past trainers cost around eighty pounds. The trainers are perfect, nice looking, light, tight fitting, has know moulded to my foot, oh and they are also great looking. Since wearing my brand new favourite item of clothing to school, there has been much hype over them between my friends, two of them even went out the next day and got pairs of trainers the same as mine but in a different colour. They also have synthetic cotton material instead of leather so they are going to be great for the summer. I also thought they would be allow water to get to my feet but I’m still yet to get wet feet. There is a Nike site that allows you to make your own presto trainers with your name on the side, these are the type of prestos that have laces so I didn’t particularly like them, the price was also a bit much at one hundred and ten pounds I couldn’t stretch to that no matter how nice they were. In the end I’m very glad that I chose my second choice trainers as I’m the first person in my school to buy them and I’m sure most of them will have a pair in the summer as they are that nice and affordable. I hope you take my advice and get a pair; these are the perfect summer trainer.

Footlocker is a US store but I have noticed branches popping up over the UK - the one on Oxford st is particularly notable because of its size. It seems to have a large selection of shoes including the new release Iverson and Jordan ranges and, in the past have been known to give out AND-1 mixtape videos with AND-1 shoes (which are on a par with Nike, Adidas for making basketball shoes). As well as shoes, footlocker has a good selection of basketball clothing, and the largest selection of NBA jerseys I have seen in one store in London. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone in the UK who is having difficulty obtaining basketball shoes of a high standard.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

Having become fascinated by the 'air bubble' in my brand new trainers (at the tender age of ten) i instantly became tangled in an affair with Nike trainers. That first and ultimately final pair of the original Air Max style started me on a life long mission to wear only Nike footwear. Not only was the air bubble going to get me admiring stares from my peers at junior school, i felt as if i could do anything in them, like a new pair of football boots that 'make you play better'. Nike shoes are the most comfortable shoes on the market today, Reebok came clos with their DMX technology, however associates have since told me that the effect the DMX has wears of after a while and ceases to make any apparant difference to the wearer. Nike shoes come with the option of having a raised over lowered arch, with the inclusion of two 'Arch Supporters' which the consumer can fit or choose to leave out, depending on preference. Nike shoes are stylish also, many of the styles to be brought out can be worn as purpose intended, to play sports, or they can be worn a part of everyday life, fitting in with most clothing styles, male more than female. Nike has recently enetered a new footwear market, the shoe market. Shoes for school, work and social gatherings increasing their reign as the best in the world. My current choice of trainers from the masters, are the new Nike Shox basketball shoe, were they have replaced the air with 'shock absorbers' hence the name, a pair of Air Chanjo, a summer style of slip- on trainer which looks good with any jeans or trousers. The Shox are really comfortable and provide plenty of support around the entire foot, they are mainly sport oriented and can't really be worn as part of everyday life, part of which is due to added risk, if someone clipped the back of them with their foot, they are likely to rip the springs from the shoe, making them a useless purc
hase. The Chanjo style is awesome, i was looking at another pair just the other day, i was going to buy them purely because i want to wear them forever, not until this pair gets deomlished. My current pair are ustilised every day, i wear thm everyday to university and use them as loafers while at home. They have a mesh front which covers a foam like substance, with rubber soles and are the most comfortable trainers, ever. They aren't much use for sports though, having no laces is a slight disadvantage, but who cares when you can use them whenever you want!!, having snapped them up at the pricely sum of 20 pounds you can't complain. So i'm going to go out and find a new pair of Nikes to add to the collection, only when one pair is demolished by over use though, well maybe 1 more pair won't do any harm.....

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

I tend to go through trainers like they are going out of fashion which is kinda funny really as trainer design and fashions haven’t really changed that much over the last few years. I suppose I will start with my main quibble about trainers, the price! Some trainers are extortionate. Trainers are meant to be items of footwear for various purposes, mainly sporting but casual wear as well. So why or why are we expected to pay in excess of £100? Is this madness? Over £100 for a pair of trainers. Just to get my outrage at this across. The majority of trainers are made by little kids in poor countries. This is not much better than slave labour. People are paid the equivalent of 2p a day to assemble trainers for countries such as Nike. They work in inhumane conditions and the trainers cost less than £5 in raw materials. They then slap a Nike swoosh on ‘em, ship them over to richer countries and charge between £40 and £125. One word. Disgusting. Right, morals cleared and anger vented lets move on. Branded trainers are highly priced but there is little that can be done. So, looks like we pay the price. So what are we getting for our money. Well, granted trainers are on the whole, very comfortable, stylish and easy to wear. Some are specifically made with special materials suck as shock absorbers and breathable materials that wick sweat away from the skin. Unfortunately, it is always best to go for branded trainers if you tend to use them vigorously and for the purpose intended e.g. running, football, tennis etc. However there are exceptions to this rule. I bought a pair or Reebok Classic running trainers for £40 and 2 months later the sole fell clean of the left shoe and both wear extremely tatty. And as I had not kept the receipt I could not take them back because judging by the state they were in anyone would have said I had had them 2 years or more. Trainers, despite their bad points are almos
t a necessity in today’s fashion driven world but spare a thought for the poor kids working in sweat shops next time you hand over £50 for a pair of trainers. Oh and keep the receipt, you never know what may happen.

Do you find that sport trainers are often too narrow? Do you find that often after only a couple of uses, new trainers look like you've had them for an eternity? Do you object to paying obseen prices for trainers, when you know that most pars are made for a couple of pounds in third-world countries such as Taiwan or Pakistan where people are exploited on a day to day basis? If so you are like me.... OK, the fact that trainers are narrow for me is not the companies fault, my feet are square so this is understandable, but I do feel that the price paid for trainers, the build quality, and the money given to workers at the other end is shocking! People in Britain on average own at least one pair of trainers. On average, British people replace trainers every 10 months. The average pair of trainers normally costs around £50, however, trainers cost companies such as adidas and nike as little as £4.00 to make a pair. If there are say 50 million people in Britain these companies make on average from us a year £2,700,000,000 that two thousand seven hundred million pounds in twelve months!

I have bought footwear from both Nike and Adidas over the past 5 years and I think that there is no comparing the two. While Nike may be more expensive than Adidas there is an incredible difference in quality of the shoe (hence the high price). I have been buying Nike shoes for quite some time now and they are an incredibly good quality make. Adidas on the other hand, I find that their trainers drop to bits in a matter of months. I have had my current Nike trainers for almost three years now and they still haven't broken. Although admittedly I've been using them as ornaments in my dresser as opposed to wearing them.

                        Disadvantages

When buying a pair of sport shoes this may sound simple but do do it. Most people don't bother. DO TRY THEM on not just for a day but DO TRY them on for a few days in use. I don't know of many places that will let you do this. But if you live near Nike Town in London or can get up there try them out. They do a fantastic 10 day policy. You can wear there shoes in for 10 days and if at the end it doesn't suit you, you can take them back. This is AMAZINGLY good. You get a REAL chance to see if they are really comfortable and not just for fashion. If you buy a pair of trainers and have the money try to be more specific. If you just buy a pair of trainers and don't think about them it may not be the most suitable for you. If you buy normal running trainers then they are mainly to run in a straight line and around simple bends. And DEFINATELY not for Tennis. Tennis is a sport where you don't do much running in straight lines. Its all about being able to change directions from left to right quick as possible. They are more grippy around the edges of your feet. And they offer much better protection for your ankles. Running shoes are for running mainly straight and are not designed for this. Also for indoor use buy some trainers that do have non marking outsoles. Some clubs will only allow a pair like this to be warn so be carefull. Basketball shoes are along the similar lines with the Tennis shoes. But they offer better protection for your ankles as they are put under more stress. If you do intend to run on a proper track. Do if you can buy a specific pair to your distance. A sprint pair of spike work best over 100-400m. And another pair for middle or long distance. The bottom of your spikes will be different so choose the appropiate pair. Also the spike lengths, do choose these and see which is more comfortable for your use and preference to running. Some prefer longer spikes and som
e shorter. I personally prefer the shorter spikes 3mm. When spending it sounds simple but do this. If your serious about your sport then spend as much that makes you feel comfortable enough to wear them properly, and makes you feel good. Its no good spending £100 when the pair for £70 feel just as good to you. Save the money and spend it on something else. But if the £100 pair feel that much more confortable then the £70 to you then DO spend it. DON'T buy from sport catelogues as you do not have the chance to wear them and see if they fit you properly. You only can go on by the size. Also I have found and probably you as well that different manufactures sizes can vary quite a bit. So try them on. Ask about half sizes as some shoes do them and see if the store has them in. If not go to another store. DON'T let any staff boss you about when your SPENDING YOUR money. If you think they are pressuring you in to a sale. Simple just walk out (do take off the shoes though...this doesn't hold up in a court of law I tried it myself..lol). So buy the best that you can afford. ^_^

I play basketball, and it is pretty intense gameplay, and also I go down to the playground near my house to play and hang with the guys. Let me tell you, this shoe is incredible. I purchased this shoe in foot Locker, and the sales person told me a number of things about the shoe. he told me about how the shoe molds to your foot, the zoom air plate to provide lift and jump, the original zipper to provide two shoes in one. This shoe shows maximum comfot, durablity, protection of the ankles, long lasting material, and creativy style. When I played my first game with these shoes, I was amazed. My shooting was way off but my feet felt good. The shoe was getting tighter because of the molding process, and I felt like I was on the moon. Known by the style as Space Shoes or Moon Shoes, and Alien Boots, this shoe has a high back heel to prevent your ankle from turning or rolling while in gameplay. After my game I was complimented on my shoe, and my great game. I couldn't believe what Nike had actually put together. On the playground a couple days later, I played a game of 3-on-3 with my Flightposites, and I played damn good. While other guys were slipped and tripping because of the massive scufing, I kept my feet and balance to blow by them with speed on many ocassions. Some of the guys don't have Basketball shoes, and that can really hurt you when out their with a guy with a pair of excellent shoes. The one thing I had never noticed the whole time I had my shoe. two things, the scuf marks I had created on the bottom of my shoe had disappeared, like they evaporated or something. the durablity on the shoe was incredible, by then many basketball shoe would have been messed up in the toe, or on the upper part of the shoe where the laces are located. The other thing was that my zipper wasn't up, since you don't have to tie your shoes, I noticed that the zip part was just a cover that could be removed. I have two shoes in one. So, I highly r
ecommend these shoes, they may not be for everybody, but then who couldn't use these anyway.

I am in love with Basketball shoes, they are confortable, trendy and they go verywell with your everyday clothes; I'm also an amatorial Basketball player so I think to have enough experiece to rate a pair of shoes. This model is not the cheapest you'll find on the market (Niketown or Footlocker), but they worth the 120 quid. The upper part is made in a kind of fabric that at a touch feels like flexible carbon fiber and it looks like too; the shoe is not too low around the ankle, as the fashion trends, so you'll have a good support and stability. The sole is made of white rubber and contains an Airmax unit at the back and a Zoomair unit at front; result ? The most comfortable B-ball shoe ever made: you will really feel the cushioning as you walk on the street as well as you play with your mates. The shoe is completed by a comfortable inner sole that gives you the right support to your arch.
