Advantages: Great Player
Disadvantages: Injury
The fan's chant 'Jip Jaap Stam is a big Dutchman' has to be one of the truest chant's that the Manchester United Fan's give to the twenty - eight year old defender. Even though he has only been at Manchester United two years, he has to be one of the most commanding players that United has. I would say, that if the present Captain Roy Keane retires (I'm sure he'll never leave for money...) before Stam, Stam might just be able to make it to be Captian for the greatest side on earth, and considering he is already the Vice captain, I think it's worth betting on. Jaap Stam has played for many clubs, starting off at the small Dutch club Cambuur Leeuwarden. He then moved to Willelm II, a then first division team in Holland. There he played extremely well and moved to PSV Eindhoven in 1996. He made his debut for his national side Holland whilst at PSV, against Germany where the side lost 1 - 0. A bad result for the team as a whole, but not for Jaap who has been a Firm Favourite since. In 1998, Manchester United paid a World Record Fee of 10.8million for the defender (Damn Rio Ferdinand!!) and in that year Jaap was also named Dutch Player Of The Year. Since then, Jaap has had many successes, such as SKY TVs Man Of The Match award for the FA cup final. I'm positive there will be more to come, once he's free of his recent injury. I'm very sure Jaap will always be a favourite for United whilst he's here, and will wear both the Orange Dutch colours and the Red United ones with pride!

- 05/07/01 Nesta and Sol Campbell are better than stam. |

- 20/04/01 shows what a great manger fergie is that he can pick up the best defender in the world for £10m, when o'dreary has to spent £18m on a pathetic waste of space who can't concentrate for more than 5 minutes |

- 10/04/01 Thanks for that, even though I knew that all along, I was just writing as it is often pronounced.
I still think that even though Stam is a Man UTD player (there, no bias) I feel Stam is much better because of his build etc. |
