Jaap Stam is one of the greatest defenders in the world without question. He's a full Holland international defender and has been with Manchester United for a couple of seasons now.

He is probably one of the top 5 defenders in the premiership alongside Matt Elliot, Sol Campbell, Martin Keown, Sammi Hyppia and Marcel Desailly, but Stam seems to be right at home at Old Trafford, and he's made his £10million signing seem like the bargain of the century for Man United.

He's very tall, standing proud at over 6 foot, one of the tallest Man United players. Stam is also a technical genius. His tackling is first rate - he rarely makes errors, hardly ever gives free kicks away and is also very fast too.

I would say that he will be at Manchester United for a good few more years, he seems happy there and they seem happy with him.

Strikers fear him, defenders envy him, and supporters like to watch him play - Jaap Stam is a brilliant footballer.

At Manchester United, Jaap Stam is respected by all the united players – he commands respect and deserves a lot of recognition as he is quote frankly superb. He’s very, very fast and can outrun many opposing strikers although I think even he would have difficulty catching Michael Owen!

He’s a very talented sportsman, and he is a very fair player – I wouldn’t like to meet someone like him down a dark alley because he’s just so huge, and this does help his game – a very precise tackler, he’s been the greatest defender this side of Liverpool in a long while.
