Stone Cold Steve Austin is perhaps the most famous name in wrestling right now. He was the man who brought 'Attitude' into the WWF. He is a foul mouthed S.O.B, he flips the bird at enemies and trashes them on the microphone. He has feuded with the majority of the WWF's top stars and has had many classic matches some being match of the year candidates. He is a popular star inside and outside of the wrestling industry. Evident from all of his matches he is a great actor and has even appeared in a few comedy series in America. He may not be the greatest technical, high flying or powerful wrestler, but he tells a story in his matches like no other. His intensity is on par with Chris Benoit, his work ethic is similar to that of wrestlers in Japan and his determination to put on the greatest match he possibly can, is an amazing quality that wraps up this perfect superstar. Well, thats a bit of an introduction, now with his career... As a kid he was very popular and he had an outgoing personality, he started with his sports career playing a defensive end on the north texas state university football team. Austin soon realised this was not the career for him. So in the early months of 1989 he enrolled in the Chris Adams wrestling school. During his time at the school he earned a reputation in South Eastern U.S.A and was the first graduate of the school in 1989. When he began his career, he wrestled under his real name, Steve Williams, but quickly adopted a new name, Steve Austin, after being confused by many people, to be 'Dr Death' Steve Williams. Under the name Steve Austin he and mentor, Chris Adams, wrestled as a tag team in the United States Wrestling Alliance. After a limited amount of success, Austin began wrestling by himself, he was involved in a bitter feud (rivalry) with Chris Adams, this feud ran through the USWA and other small independent venues. The feud eventually hit its peak, when Austin h
ired Adams, ex-wife as his valet (Manager) and Adams hired Austins, then current wife to be his valet. Austin also enlisted the aid of Percy Pringle, better known as Paul Bearer to the WWF. He wrestled with Pringle as his manager throughout the USWA, Texas and Tennessee. After several hish profile matches with Jeff Jarrett, Austin departed from the USWA and jumped ship, to the growing WCW. Early in his WCW career he won the Television title from Bobby Eaton, he was soon brough into the Dangerous Alliance stable, managed by Paul E Dangerously, Paul Heyman in the ECW and WWF. His stablemates, were Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Larry Zybsko, Bobby Eaton and Madusa. When he was in this stable he was pushed into many feuds with the likes of Dustin Rhodes, Scott Steiner, Barry Windham and Ron Simmons, Faarooq in the WWF. Soon after, Paul E Dangerously left WCW to form his own promotion, ECW. After this, Austin teamed with the deceased, Brian Pillman, to form the Hollywood Blondes tag team. In his time in the Hollywood Blondes Austin soon became one of the more popular stars of the promotion. He was immensely popular but didn't get a proper run with any belt becuase the promoters didn't feel he was a worthy champion. Teaming with Pillman, they performed many skits making a parody of Arn Anderson and Ric Flair, involving one, named the the walk of the old. When Brian Pillman became injured Austin once again started to wrestle individually and won the United States title from Dustin Rhodes, he defended the belt against stars like Marc Mero and The Great Muta (Kejih Muto in Japan) his matches with Mutoh earned him a reputation amongst Japanese promoters. Austin later dropped the belt to Rick, The Dragon, Steamboat. After Steamboat was injured he was rewarded the belt, only to lose it, in the same night!!! to Hacksaw, Jim Duggan. After this, a series of setbacks, knee and tricep injuries took took him out of active competition. R
ealising Austins usefulness on the mat in WCW, was non-existent, Eric Bischoff terminated his contract. Austin soon signed a devolopement contract with the WWF, but was allowed to work on other shows or promotion until the bookers could decide what to do with him. Austin traveled to Philadelphia promotion, ECW, where he sharpened up his microphone skills, he performed some of his old parody skits in ECW, mocking the likes of Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan. Austin started working with Mick Foley, which helped him work around his injuries and enhance his interview skills. Despite speculation that Austin would do well in ECW, his time was short, and after only 4 months he signed with the WWF in late 1995. Steve Ausitn was named The Ringmaster and was managed by the million dollar man, Ted DiBiase. Austin was awarded the million dollar title and was involved in a lenghty feud with Savio Vega. The fued ended in a match that would make Austin lose the belt and his manager! This loss turned to out to be a winner, as he was named, Stone Cold Steve Austin, a man who ranted about trusting noone, being in the business for himself and only himself. Austin would go on to win the King Of The Ring in 1996, this was the true start, of the Stone Cold era, He defeated Jake, The Snake, Roberts, in the final to win the tournament, after this win, he told Jake, "I just whipped your Ass!" This line caught on with fans and propelled him into stardom in the WWF. Now a big time played in the WWF, Austin entered a feud with Bret Hart, which culminated in a submission match at wrestlemania 13. This was one of AUstins most famous matches to date, where he truly earned the fans respect as one of the hardest workers in the business. Bret Hart had caused Austin to bleed in this match, and Austins face was a crimson mask. Bret Hart sensed the end of the match and locked in the incredibly painful, Sharpshooter, submission hold. Austin didn't
give up, despite having lost an incredible amount of blood. He passed out from the blood loss and the match, while Hart won the match, Austin had won his dream ticket into several main event status matches. This match was voted match of the year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, in 1997. Austin, now a huge fan favourite, teamed with fellow faces (good guys) Shawn Michaels and Dude Love (Mick Foley). Austin then went on to win the intercontinental title from Owen Hart, but in the same match suffered a damaged spine and vertabrae, after a messed up piledriver from Owen. He was to be out of action for several months but his popularity continued to grow, despite being stripped off both the titles he held at the time. When he returned, he was now the most famous of the top stars, and the MVP (Most Valauable Player) of the WWF. he eventually won the WWF title, from Shawn Michaels, at wrestlemania 14, where both men faught severe injuries during the match. From this time, Austin wrestled an aggresive shedule, who defended his title, on every show he was at. He faced several people, including, Kane, The Undertaker, Dude Love and others. Austins biggest rival, was not a wrestler, but was the WWF owner, Vince McMahon. Bret used his poor reputation as a fair promoter over the incident involving Bret Hart leaving the WWF. Vince was pushed as a super heel (bad guy) and Austin was the mega face (good guy). Vince was determined to get the WWF title from Austins waist, this was one of the more legendary feuds in WWF history and is possibly the best in Austins career. Since then he has feuded with many superstars, like Kurt Angle, The Rock, Triple H and The Undertaker. In late 1999 Austin incured a neck injury and was put out of action for 8 months. Doctors told Austin he would never wrestle again, but Austin displayed his great determination, by fighting the injury and returning to the ring, better than ever. To this day Austin conti
nues to take huge bumps and has landed on his neck several times. Things like that, are qualities of a legend, Austin is truly that. Addition Facts: Real Name: Steve Williams.
