I do think that having a job can detract from studying, however, it’s become like a necessity. You have to work in order to maintain yourself, even though some people get loans out. The loans are not enough. Some of my student friends who do so intensive courses, have to work more than they study, simply to keep afloat.
Without seeming to be biased people don’t know how tough students have it. How can they expected to work part-time and still give a 100% to their studies.

The worst thing is that I have seen some really clever people drop out because they couldn’t pay their fees, now where will that leave them. If we students are regarded as the future shouldn’t we looked after. Instead, we are encouraged to take loans out, so by the time we are 21 we will be in debt of about £18,000 which is without the mortgage most people have when they buy a house.

A couple of weeks a go, I am sure I heard Tony Blair saying that if students went into teaching some of their loans would be paid off, I am sure it’s just because deep down he knows the loans idea was wrong.
People who would want to go to university will just opt not to, students will be stressed under with all the working, studying and worrying.

Most people perceive students to be partying all night, ok they do go out but that doesn’t mean they have to be in debt to their eye balls, it should be studying they should be worrying about not which job they are going to find and when.

I am not saying students shouldn’t work, but as an extra during holidays, not compulsory during every day during the calendar year. It’s not easy being a student, the financial strain is enormous, and that’s without the work load.

I think Education should be free for all, and then students will be able to graduate, get their best jobs and then the government will get the best out of us. At the moment to many people are dro
pping out because they can’t balance work and study and therefore can’t manage financially.

Who said Education was FREE, it’s not. And when Tony Blair said ‘Education, Education, Education’ he meant ‘There’s the weak members of society, we’ll tax them, their powerless……….we will vote Tony Blair, so you best buck up your ideas.

Its a fine balance - but I have to agree with opinionated to some degree, working can give you added value in the job market. No-one said it was easy, I had three part-time jobs and was a single parent when I did my degree, so speak from experience.
