Advantages: Lethal strikeforce, good support
Disadvantages: Poor midfield
Sunderland have done brilliantly since earning promotion a couple of years ago. They stormed the First Division and were up among the top 5 for most of the season last year. Most of that was down to the partnership of Quinn and Phillips with Phillips scoring 30 league goals last year. Quinn has been rejuvenated since partnering Phillips at Sunderland. So many of Phillips' goals came directly from Quinn assists but Quinn also scored his fair share.
What is currently preventing Sunderland from being a top 6 club is a really poor midfield. Kilbane's not a bad player but apart from him they don't carry any sort of threat from the middle of the park. Defensively they are average, Sorensen's a fairly good keeper and Gray has potential to be a quality fullback but hasn't so far fulfilled that potential.
Reid needs a couple of quality midfielders to get Sunderland up into the top 6 in the country.
