To build up confidence I have been to aqua aerobics which is a major laugh as long as you aren't in too deep...the local pool is cold too, man it is freezing. It would be so much more enticing if it were to be a few degrees warmer. I tend not to visit the pool at half term as I hate being splashed and soaked by kids jumping in a metre away from you, and these ... more

Swimming from the perspective of a really rubbish swimmer. Absolutely dreaded swimming at school. The memories I have are of some angry woman waving a stick at and making me get in at the deep end. Hated it. I was lucky to do my width at school and even found that difficult. Now as an adult and able to try and learn and practice at my own pace I really enjoy it. Premium Review Do not try this at home (319 words)

In order to swim you need water, possible plenty of it, possibly not too cold, surely at least enough of it not to touch the ground, you also need water not to be running, few people swim down a cascade, and no sharks. Waves, when big, can also be a problem. If your bathtub is not big enough, the nearest place you can go to swim is a swimming pool. Occasionally in UK we get floods and you may take advantage of it to practice few strokes. Swimming pools can be covered, or open. I have a swimming pool at my gym and I mainly swim there and also in Hotels when Ii travel. I mean, I swim in the swimming pool of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Swimming in General: Water water everywhere! (265 words)

Swimming is a popular sport up and down the world and all over the UK. People take part in this sport in free public places, such as lakes and beaches, and in places where you have to pay, such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Before I go any further...check it is safe before you swim somewhere. There are lots of dangerous reservoirs where it may look safe to swim, but dont be fooled, it is not! People are not born knowing how to swim. The definition of swimming is being able to keep yourself afloat, and move, whilst being in the water. To do this you move your arms and legs in a very special combination. Most people are taught to swim by their parents or ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Life saving PJs? (1129 words)

So, what on earth is the point of jumping into a pool in your pyjamas, swimming 200 meters front-crawl, inflating your pyjama bottoms, then having to dive down 6 ft to retrieve a brick, and then having to swim another 200m breast stroke? This was called the 'Bronze Survival', a right of passage from upper school when we were kids, the more athletic going on to take the Silver and Gold Survival. Presumably gold survival you had to swim down and rescue everyone on a breached submarine or something. They made no sense. Imagine if you're at sea and the trawler or cruise ship starts to go down what do you do? Do you help women and children into the lifeboat ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Swimming in General: TRY A REFRESHING SWIM IN THE SEA YOU MAY BECOME AN ADDICT (398 words)

SEA SWIMMING I am an office worker so like many of you out there I need to keep fit to obtain a sensible weight. I cycle to work so this helps but still need to do something that entails some type of stretching. My colleague comes from Czech and is very focused on her exercise routines. I have worked with her for three years now and she constantly asked me to teach her the front crawl. Last summer I decided to join her in the sea and gave her some tips on the front crawl. She is now overtaking me easily. You may find the water cold at first but once you getgoing your body adjusts quickly. The cold water on your face gives you a good 'wide awake' ...  Read the complete review
