SEA SWIMMING
I am an office worker so like many of you out there I need to keep fit to obtain a sensible weight. I cycle to work so this helps but still need to do something that entails some type of stretching.
My colleague comes from Czech and is very focused on her exercise routines. I have worked with her for three years now and she constantly asked me to teach her the front crawl. Last summer I decided to join her in the sea and gave her some tips on the front crawl. She is now overtaking me easily. You may find the water cold at first but once you getgoing your body adjusts quickly. The cold water on your face gives you a good 'wide awake' look.
I used to swim at the swimming baths twice a week, but have become addicted to the sea swimming as I find you get a much better and more interesting workout. I have bought a triathlon wetsuit that keeps you warm and has the flexibility and buoyancy to aid your swimming.
The cold water is invigorating and energising and you burn more calories swimming in the cold water than in the warm swimming baths. Another plus is you don't have to put up with chlorine, which not only smells but also interrupts the natural ph balance of your skin. I suffer from eczema on my hands, which first started when I swam more than once a week in the baths.
The down side to the sea is you can't really swim if the sea is rough as you tend to swallow too much, also if an easterly is blowing you get all sorts of weird and wonderful debris floating around. It can also dry out your hair, so wear a hat and fully rinse afterwards.
I suggest if you love swimming and have the confidence give sea swimming a go. You will soon become one of a minority. I used to think these people crazy plunging into the freezing cold sea. Quite a lot of them elderly but now realise just why they do it. It can also increase the efficiency of your imune system as it stimulates the blood flow.
Thanks for reading my review and I hope you will try it somtime!
Summary: GIVE IT A GO IF YOU HAVE THE CONFIDENCE AND LOVE SWIMMING

- 24/06/09 It all makes so much sense - swimming pools are overcrowded and overheated. |

- 24/06/09 Less likely to pick up a verruca from the sea and sand either! |
