Advantages: local, cheap, accessible

Disadvantages: smaller

My small town has it's own, albeit very small, swimming pool. It's located on the grounds of the local Community College, and was built in the late 50's - you know the type - fibre-glass type domey thing for a roof, very basic inside -just a pool - and very basic changing rooms.

It's not flash, has no water slides, only has 6 cubicles for changing in (in the ladies) the rest of the changing area is communal, it has no reception, just a kiosk, and part of the roof is covered in tarpaulin as there is a hole!

It needs approximately £180,000 worth of work doing to it, to keep it going for at least the next 10 years and needless to say, as it belongs to the local council, they are not sure whether to close it or stump up the cash.

My point is this - - -

For £1.45 (adult) & £0.75 (child) you can swim, without needing to make a car journey to a flashy pool that will cost upwards of £4 to get in.

The local schools use it for swimming lessons - approx 10 schools in all.

Tutored swimming lessons are available, a swimming club, mums and tots, adults only session, over 50 sessions, aquarobics etc etc etc

--what happens to these groups if the pool is shut?

Considering the use that is made of the pool, I really don't see the problem in spending the money....but then again we are talking about the council....perhaps they would prefer to spend the money on something more useful? I expect we need another sculpture to mark some anniversary or another????

Local Swimming pools - Fantastic Asset

We do not have a local swimming pool our nearest is a car journey away. My children love their swimming lessons in another small basic pool. You do not need all the extras to learn to swim well.
