What a prudish world we live in today.I have read others opinions on this subject and I am surprised at some.
On the subject of sex education I believe it should be taught at an early age.
Girls as young as 8 are starting puberty these days, how on earth are they expected to cope if they know nothing about what is happening to their body?
How are other children to cope and not bully them for being different if they know nothing either?
Also I believe that contraceptives and sexually transmitted diseases should be discussed thoroughly when they start secondary school.
YOU as a parent MUST be approachable on absolutely EVERY subject for your child to turn to you.
YOU must realise that that no matter how much of an angel your child is,it is very likely they will be experimenting or having full intercourse behind your back.
YOU must be prepared for this,I am not saying that any of us as parents have to agree or accept what they are doing but with or without us they will do it.
At least if we can educate them about contraceptives and protection the teenage pregnancy rate will fall.
I couldn’t approach my parents about anything.
I bought sanitary products out of my dinner money.
I WAS PREGNANT AT FOURTEEN YEARS OLD.
Not for the want of a house or any of the other benefits that are so drummed out through the press.
But because I believed I was mature, wanted and accepted.
I didn’t have a clue about contraception and just believed I wouldn’t get pregnant.
Little did I know at the time but I was in fact VERY immature.
Teenagers need to know that a house will not fall into their laps.
They will have a long wait and most will end up in filthy bedsits, damp mobile homes and some with just a room at a house for teenage mothers.
They need to be taught the expense of having a child and the restrictions having a child will bring.
Every school needs one of those programmed babies that are virt
ually real.
I know that it has changed the outlook of those who believe that having a baby is just like having a pretty dolly to dress up.
But most importantly it is the responsibility of YOU as a parent, not schools or others to protect and guide your child.
YOU must ensure that they don’t get pregnant.
I know after my experience that I will provide my children with contraceptives if I get the slightest hint that they are sexually active.
Inside I will feel sick and totally against it but I wont feel half as bad as if they came home pregnant or with AIDS.
Please feel free to read my opinion on my teenage pregnancy.
It is an ordeal to go through alone and one I wouldn’t wish on anyone’s child.

Some very valid points raised.
I firmly believe that parents should be the main educators.
