Advantages: sex is a great thing
Disadvantages: there are consequences
I would say that it must be very confusing for teenagers nowadays. They have sex thrown at them at every corner = advertising bill boards and television adverts uses sex to sell any item, music is mainly sex-based with videos that are almost pornographic in nature, newspapers and magazines go on and on about womens bodies being something to look at and feel sexual about, TV programmes such as the Ibiza uncovered type things that promote young people experimenting with sex and Childrens magazines such as just 17 (mainly read by teenagers aged 12+) which have whole sections giving information about different positions which will blow his mind. Add to this the lack of proper sex education, which should include the emotional aspects and consequences and not jus, the physical side of things, it is no wonder that children think sex is ok to do. Every where they turn sex is being sold to them, it is something that everyone does all over the place and the consequences are minimal. Society itself has become so blase about sex. It is something that has become an open to everyone in any shape or form. We have become imbued in sex. It is now almost like eating, something that we do anywhere anytime with anyone and it does not matter. Except that it does. It matters to those who do end up paying the costs of our societies lack of responsibility towards our youngsters. Don't blame the children, they are told that it is fine to do, there is nothing wrong in sex (and there isn't, but we need to learn to be responsible for all our actions before taking something, including sex, up)that we are allowed to do it all the time and in fact encouraged to do it all the time. We are feeding this to our children and then wondering why they are ending up with pregnancies, STD's and a total confussion as to what love and relationships are really all about.

- 28/08/01 I had sex education when I was around 10/11 years old. There was no lack of it and if anything else it's what starts the curiosity for many. If anything makes teenagers have sex it's the idea that they should do it by the time they're 16 years old. |

- 09/05/01 Lack of sex education? Not true. I was educated about sex when I was about 12/13. It was understood fully by everyone who attended. It was the ones that didn't attend that later had the problem of getting pregnant early. Their problem. |
