Disadvantages: kills and maims hundreds of innocent people

Although I am not a terrorist I do have a bit pf personal experience regarding terrorism during my days serving queen and country, especially in Northern Ireland, which was a little rough for a British Squaddie at the time?...although this really hit home during my civilian days when a few friend and myself were visiting a certain city in in June of 1996... Having passed a normal looking white truck on Corporation Street only minutes earlier... wondering what the woman police officer who were rushing towards us, waving there arms, wanted with us... (although we could tell from her face that it wasn't for suspicion of shoplifting)
To be perfectly honest, the explosion that day was without doubt the loudest I had ever heard in my life, and considering I had heard quite a few during my time as a squaddie that is saying something...

There are so many different levels of terrorism, such as teenagers hanging around an estate to terrorise residents, bullies in schools who terrorise the weaker kids or the man of the household who terrorises his wife and kids... but the worst kind of terrorism is the kind that chooses to obliterate innocent people for the sake of a cause... taking lives of women and children with no compassion, using the guise of politics or religion as there cause...?
This type of murderous terrorism has been around since the dawn of time and will be around until the end of the world....and sadly there is no way of stopping it...ever....
People simply have to live with that fact and try to carry on with their lives as best they can, basically, sticking to fingers up to the terrorist who want to cause mass carnage.
If people started to stay in side their houses and hid behind their curtains then terrorist would have finally won and the world would be a very dark place to live...so people MUST stand tall and show the terrorist that fear can not take control of the globe.
It is a sad thought to know that our lives can be so dramatically changed by the hateful acts of another but we just have to live our lives as best we can.

Anyway, terrorism will always be a part of some ones life somewhere around the world... regardless of how hard certain 'big nations' try to put a stop to it.
The simple truth is that terrorists are committed to there cause... be it taking on the western civilisation or Independence of a country... the 'fighters' believe what they are doing is for the good of there cause and this is why terrorism will never be defeated, which is a sad thing to say indeed...

* A QUICK BRIEF HISTORY LESSON...

Let's take a quick look on the British doorstep...with the historical battle for a political cause... The IRA...(be it 'Real', 'Provisional' or any other word that prefixes those three initials...

The IRA were 'active' terrorist in the U.K. until quite recently.. But this organisation was only heard of since 1913, splintering from the Irish Volunteers, then splintering once more during the early 1920s... but prior to them, during the 1800s and fighting for more or less the same political cause was the Fenian Brotherhood, who were technically American based Irish revolutionaries and hell bent on terrorising mainland Britain with bombing campaigns, usually on 'soft' targets such as Scotland Yard in 1984, Tower Bridge and the house of Commons in 1885, The Greenwich Observatory in 1894 and several others during there time of terror...(plus, they also coming close to assassination Queen Victoria in 1887 at Westminster Abbey).

Fortunately for the people of the UK, and the good of the country, this political terrorism did find a peaceful ending with the signing of the Good Friday agreement in Belfast in 1998.... (taking several years to dismantle the barracks and checkpoints that had emerged throughout Northern Ireland...).

But not all terrorist cause can ever find a peaceful conclusion... as many terrorist organisations are simply hell bent on causing as much chaos and bloodshed as possible... but they will still claim to be doing it for a certain cause..?

*************

With terrorist such as 'Al Qaeda' trying any method they can to kill as many people as possible, such as car bombs, suicide bombers and even aeroplanes as missile, times have never been so dangerous for everyone, regardless of colour or creed, (a bomb doesn't distinguish between races), it is a simple fact of anyone is a target to these determined murderers, (as that is what they are at the end of the day)

So if terrorism can not be stopped then it is a matter of people being more vigilant, (like the general public in Britain were always told during the IRA era) and the appropriate authorities being one step ahead of the terrorist, being able to foil any attempt at detonating any device which is aimed at killing as many innocent people as possible.

Sadly, we have always lived in a world were terrorism is a fact of life and for every terrorist killed there will be several more to take his/her place... continuing until the end of time...

So as we live on with possible attacks on every corner we are fighting the terrorist by simply walking down the street, going to work, laughing in the parks as we play with our children, flying on planes and using the trains... in fact, every time we go about or normal day to day lives we are saying to the terrorists...
"We shall NOT be defeated by your cowardly actions.... We shall stand tall against your gutless attacks... we will NEVER cower in our homes whilst you try to take our freedom...
WE WILL LIVE OUR LIVES AS WE WANT TO...."

Summary: Violent murderers use the word 'Terrorist' as a guise

It's also a terrible shame that we now have Western governments who are prepared to use this fear of terrorism to their own ends. I wonder how many civil liberties will be eroded as the government waves the terrorism card in our faces. I'm not entirely sure who we should be more frightened of.
