Advantages: "Weapons of mass destruction" can be used as a universal excuse for everything

Disadvantages: See Advantages

A long time ago there was a family. They lived in a wonderful home, large and spacious. They lived off their own fertile land, happy and contented. Alas, one day the neighbours decided that the land would be better put to use by them. The neighbours took control of the house, taking all of the best rooms for themselves and forcing the original owners to live in the cupboard under the stairs, cramped and overcrowded. Seeing themselves as just and fair landlords the new occupiers gave the menial, dirtiest and most physical jobs to the original family, the cleaning of toilets, digging of gardens, cooking and washing. The best jobs, the overseeing of the work and suchlike were given to the cousins of the new owners.

After a while the original family started to get a little bit fed up with this new arrangement. They planned to take the house back into their own control. Armed only with garden tools they mounted an attack on the new occupiers, but alas the automatic weapons that they came up against were not an even match. The father of the original family was killed, and the mother and daughters beaten and raped. In the years that followed they tried various ways to get their own home back. They tried reasoning with the new landlords, but to no avail. They tried some more frontal attacks but were outnumbered and outclassed by weapons. They suffered great loss.

Eventually one of the sons had finally had enough. He wasn't a violent man, he was a good law abiding christian. He could see no other way. One night while the new landlord was asleep in his bed the son sneaked in and beat him to death with the only weapon he had - his bare hands. He wasn't proud of what he had done, but he knew if need be he would do the same again. And he did. The rest of the street looked on in horror and disgust. The new family were such good people, contributing to local events and charities, hosting great parties, tipping their hat and saying good morning.
"The original family should be grateful for what they have" thought the rest of the street, how dare they try to reclaim their own house through violence.

And do you know - the struggle continues to this very day. Perhaps it is even in your street. Maybe you are one of the neighbours who looks on while the original people are tortured and downtrodden. Or maybe the original owners are relatives of yours. You may even be tempted to give them a helping hand in the struggle to reclaim their property. Or maybe it is all happening in a street in another town, many miles away, and you couldn't give a fig about it - as long as it doesn't affect you.

But one day it might affect you. Will you understand? Will you be prepared? Can you, deep down in the bottom of your heart, tell yourself that you are on the 'correct' side?

What would you have done if it was your house?

I know this is a rather unfunny opinion, but hey I wanted to give my views, sorry. To finish I'd like you to read something that was written by a republican prisoner on hunger strike in the 'H' Blocks.

Mans inhumanity to man
is found in every shape and guise
In every state or land
where the tyrant does reside

The imprisoned man and hungry child,
the tortured and oppressed
Are in abundance all the while
where the rich man does invest

And he or she who rebel
to break that cursed bond
May stand before the world and yell -
Do not scorn me - you stood by while I was wronged.

Prettyn much everyone is guilty - the Brits, Americans, French, Dutch, Germans, Portugese and Spanish probably top the list but most nations will feature somewhere.
