Advantages: Its fun
Disadvantages: Bad pay
This review is what I think is the best job in the world from personal experience in my life so far. Ive worked in retail, volunteering, bars, hotels and afterschool clubs. However the best one to date is working as a childrens rep abroad.
The interview for my job was 4 hours long. We watched a presentation, then were put into groups to plan a days session like we would in the job. We got watched whilst we did this, we then had to present to the rest of the interviewees what the day would consist of. Then we had a personal interview, which was more like a chat of what experience you had, and that you knew what you were signing up for. You could also take a language test if you wanted as it might help you to get the country you wanted.
I have worked in france twice now, the vendee and brittany. Im going back to the vendee again this summer.
The main companies that employ people for this job are holidaybreak (eurocamp and keycamp), siblu, tui, thompson, and neilson.
The hours are great, just 2 1/2 hours in the morning, a 4 hour lunch break, and then the same in the late afternoon. You get to play fun games led by yourself, and although you are the same sort of role model as a teacher, they find you a lot more fun as theres no actual teaching apart from maybe showing them how to hold a tennis racket, or the basic rules of basketball.
I tend to put a lot of sports into my sessions when Im out working abroad, as the weather is nice, and its good for the kids to be exercising outside. It also helps them to make friends especially when put into teams, and getting a bit competetive.
The pay is rubbish really, you get paid once a fortnight, but the pay is low because they give you free accomodation. Most kids reps are aged between 18-25 and not much older. You have to be CRB checked as well, to ensure the kids safety. You also need previous experience in a playworker setting like an afterschool club which I had.
This job keeps you fit, as you are constantly running around after the children, and joining in sports games. Expect to loose some weight! The lifestyle is very relaxed away from the UK, and its great to have no pressures of having to pay bills, as electric and gas are also free.
I really can't think of anything wrong with it, apart from that you might not get on with someone from your team, but you could have that anywhere in any job. Im going to be doing this job again in the summer, and am very excited about getting back to camping life. Its a good tiring job that doesnt have too many hours, and as long as the kids and parents are happy then Iv e done my job well.
Summary: Its worth it!

What do you think are the best companies/resorts/agencie s to work for?
Did you have a normal 1-to-1 interview, or something more job-related like in a group/role play? |
