Advantages: Up to date look, modern, clearer, easier to navigate, new features
Disadvantages: Still lacking everything - forums/message boards and more
For those of you who are wondering how I am writing this review; it is because I visited the site regularly a long time ago when the old design was present. I didn't have enough time on my hands to join the site, but checked back on it every now and then. After finally creating an account towards the end of January 2007, I was more than pleased to be signing up as it had changed so much! It just looks so much better and I love it compared to the old design.
The old design had the same colour schemes but wasn't nice-looking or as clear. Now, everything can be found in one place under the community page. You can now view your account on the side toolbar of the homepage when you log in. The site has been updated everywhere imaginable and has a modern look compared to the old one. The toolbars and whole design seems more 'bubbly' now in a modern way. The old design was a bit rusty and didn't look attractive. The shapes were square and boring and it had a boring look.
The whole site has changed around as well as the general look being updated. The new reviews page is much updated as well as the community page itself. You can now view much more information such as 'most reviews written, most reviews rated, most comments made, most crowned reviews' and more for the last 30 days or other options. Little extra options such as this make the site even better.
The suggestion feature has been updated and improved. Suggestions are now processed in a few days and they are quick and easy to submit. You are also now able to view comments to the side of the review when reading as well as rate it above this box. This is useful for when you scroll back up and may write a comment. It is also more visible if you were wondering where the ratings are. This is a real good bonus and very useful in my opinion.
There are countless things updated such as a page devoted to guides and co-guides. One of the recent updates now shows guides with a green tab under their picture and new members (30 days or less new) with an orange tab under their name. This is very useful and looks modern and works well. It enables you to easily see the guides and new members rather than checking out their profiles or just not knowing at all!
However, despite the up to date look and new features, the site redesign still isn't complete! I would love to have some kind of forums on the site, which it currently lacks! This would be a real bonus and would promote more discussions and more. The forum could have different titles such as 'Reviews, General, Off-Topic, Social' or something along those lines...just a few ideas there. I think many members would appreciate this rather than heading to Tooyoo to use the badly designed (sorry!) forums there.
Thanks for reading,

Summary: The site has had an excellent revamp, but could do with a few more features added

- 06/03/08 Isn't the Forum more of a personal addition you would like to see added, rather than something that makes dooyoo incomplete? If dooyoo had said it was going to provide a Forum, then certainly it would be unfinished. But they didn't make such a promise, did they? I'm quite happy without there being a Forum, otherwise this place could into Ciao! |
