For the Marriage of my sister, in memory of our mother now sadly departed, a poem from us all. Please indulge a soppy New Zealander crying into his beer. This is how my family is together and we all love each other. Why the world cannot accept that is beyond me. It may not be home any longer, But you were born there. It may not be home any longer, But you were formed there, crafted there. The far distant land was your parent; You drew your strength there. Aotearoa was your mother. It gave you you spirit, vision clear. Antipodean sky gave you light. It stands unique there. Uncompromising colour, outlines of all that is, sheer, unfazed. You dance with the dance of the sun, the shadow. You brood with the the menace of bush and forest, Of manuka and fern, that weigh on you. It may not be home any longer But you were taught there To meet the slopes that are steep, To climb and not to look behind you. So we can be glad, you and I, that You came to this new place. There may not be home any longer, But it has sent you. He oha na te whaea E tipu te whakareanga nei E tipu e. A mother's last words: Grow you young generation, grow. Kia kaha. Be strong. Best wishes to you both in your new life together.

- 20/02/02 Sorry, I echo Dave London.
I don't know if you saw my comment (and re-rating) on the other op - it seems to have vanished from your profile so I guess the 'police' have locked it - just email them and tell them you wrote it and you should get it back :) |
