Disadvantages: The ideas need to be there

The gold rush for the new millenium - that's what the Dot.com rush is all about. Just like there were thousands of prospectors charging around the United states looking for gold in the 1800's, so we have thousands of people charging around Cyber space looking for their millions.

Most of the gold prospectors were considerably poorer when they had finished than before they began. A few made their fortune.

The dot.com rush is exactly the same.

A great business idea can and probably will work on the Internet, but it is not more likely to work than it would on the High Street or through Mail order.

There appears to be a mad rush by people who have little or no Internet experience but who have heard from the media that fortunes can be made. It doesn't take too long online to see what works and what doesn't; the people who fall for the hype cannot have spent much time online.

The companies that succeed will be the ones that are offering what the customer wants - just like High Street shops succeed or fail. I shop exactly the same online or off - I shop around and I buy as cheap as I can.

There are fortunes to be made - but only if you have the great idea and the necessary business acumen to make it work.

The more the world changes the more it stays the same.
