The Golden Jubilee ... years). How do you think we should celebrate it or should we be celebrating it at all? Are you happy for it to be paid for from Public Funds, or should the Royal Family foot the bill themselves?

But it would be wrong to read too much into the impressive turn-out at the street parties and parades. Just like the send-off given to the Queen Mum, some commentators have interpreted the Jubilee as a ... more

The late, great Peter Cook was once invited to dinner with Fergie and Prince Andrew. He declined politely, explaining that having consulted his diary he would be watching television that night. That's rather how I felt about the Jubilee celebrations. I discovered that I had a prior engagement with Minder on Granada Plus. That's not to say the Jubilee passed me by entirely, though my eyes did begin to glaze over some of the newspaper and television coverage. To say I've never been a monarchist would be to understate the position. Not so long ago I would have cheerfully seen the assorted members of the Royal Family swinging from lamp posts in ...  Read the complete review

The Queen's jubilee, fifty years on the throne. Gawd bless you mam, after all it's been a hard time what with the constant divorces from your kids and close relatives. But of course the fact that the Queen and the family didn't have to pay inheritance tax on what the Queen mother left them must have been a real sweetner. I'm not anti royal, I don't loathe them like say John Lydon. I think they serve a purpose with the fact that tourists seem to have the notion that it's what makes our country so different to theirs. But the Jubile celebrations were somthing that really got on my nerves. It just seemed like something to make the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Golden Jubilee: A Jubilee of Hope and Friendship  (898 words)

I'm all in favour of the Jubilee for a very special reason. We were married on Saturday 4th June 1977, the weekend of the Silver Jubilee. A short two-day honeymoon in Cricceith on the Lleyn Peninsular, in north west Wales was followed by a week’s acclimatization to our new home. A home we moved into together on that Jubilee weekend and a home, which we still live very happily in to this day. Arriving home from our honeymoon on that Silver Jubilee bank holiday Monday our neighbours insisted we attended the street party. We had a great time, everyone was extremely friendly, very welcoming and we ended up partying till the early hours. ...  Read the complete review

Actually I have got to say that much euphoria was met particularly with us sound techies because we received a somewhat rare tribute and given by royalty too! At the end of the rock and pop concert on monday night in the queens back garden, the prince gave a fitting speech but also stopped to mention some kind words in the direction of all the sound technicians that help to make that concert what it was, and being that I am a fellow sound engineer I was ecstatic that at last somebody cared to think of us and all the hard work that sound people do actually put into producing something of this calibre, and also quite unexpected as I fully expected the lighting people ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Golden Jubilee: What a party! (1523 words)

Aged three - I was too young to remember The Silver Jubilee in 1977. When growing up the key events to look forward to for me, had been the solar eclipse and then the Millennium. I have a little collection of keepsakes relating to those dates and now I can add some bits and pieces from the Queen’s Golden Jubilee as it is an event that I feel has been a huge success and will be remembered in history. I understand that not every one in the United Kingdom feels that the monarchy is a worthwhile cause and I can understand the reasons why, but personally I love all the pomp and tradition that comes from our Royal Family. I feel that the ...  Read the complete review
